[QUERY] Why Can't Steam Do Game/Video Streaming Like Twitch? : Steam

I'm watching the live video streams on multiple games so I'm wondering why Steam doesn't just provide live streaming of games?

Just press a button to record/live stream your games on Steam.

If people watch boobietuber gamers on Facebook and Twitch, why doesn't Steam just do the same?

Steam is for all ages, and given the number of countries involved - I doubt they'd want to make a service as they'd have to actively moderate each and every single channel to ensure there's no rule breaking, especially the kind you mentioned. I'm also willing to bet that other than being held to countries standards/laws, they wouldn't want to make money off of things that would essentially label them as a "soul-less corporation" just willing to take silly peoples money.

They would likely want quality streamers, while fitting within kid-glove rules, so overall it would be more or less unrealistic/pointless for them to make.

There should be another place to Stream, but not Steam. It would also need to not have the same asinine community standards and "trust & safety council" while ignoring others that W themselves for money by doing talentless / non-entertaining things. There's enough places that turn a blind eye to rule breaking when they get a good chunk of the pie, while holding the rest of the community to moreover absurd rules especially the content of the chat or other players involved which they do not control.

I wonder how much effort would be needed to make such a service. I haven't looked into it, but I'd imagine you'd need a lot of processing power to even start such a thing.

Currently, there are developer streams, stream your games to your friends and in-game streaming for Steam games like Dota2.

Video streaming seems like an option that Steam doesn't want to use.

It's not a Steam-can't-build-this technical issue, they can already do it.

You mentioned that it is a lack of processing power issue.

Are you concerned about how "dirty" it is to process a video stream?

This matters a ton more when you consider that twitch itself is not profitable and they are easily one of the biggest in the western market.

With no monetization on steam currently it's not a big factor thus why it's mostly used for advertising their main streaming site.

Sure they could change the dropdown menu name from Broadcasts to Stream under the Community tab but that just sounds like it is trying to hard to made a joke.
