Those of us saying not to use sleep, gave reasons for why it shouldn't be used and I myself even said that it does have its uses.
To not repeat myself, cause you can just go back and read, I'll say the main point.
Sleep, causes an issue with steam.
Steam, as shown in your quote with steam support, does not have a fix nor will they provide information.
Thus the answer: Don't want the issue? Don't use the sleep function while operating steam until the issue is resolved.
Thank you for being honest - that's nicely refreshing as so many double down or get bent out of shape.
The sad reality is though that Steam was never designed to be half of what it is todaqy. It was only ever designed to be a vehicle to distribute Valve's own handful of games they expected to turn out.
So, I give them some leeway on that part.
However, I'm rather on the fence about sleep mode on the whole. Sure, many, many Windows native programs run and can accommodate sleep mode no problem, but that DOES NOT mean that all can, purely by nature of what they are and how they operate.
For example, I have certain audio engineering applications that also don't like Sleep mode and there really is no way round it.
Now, it COULD mean that Valve have done a silly and coded this badly, or it simply could mean there isn't an easy way round it. Until anyone gets to really root through their code, we can't say.
I am sure your post is well meaning but telling people that their accounts are compromised when they are not leads to confusion and panic.
This does not appear to be a problem with the security of steam accounts. It is a problem with access being terminated when a computer wakes from sleep which never used to be a problem and is a completely normal part of operating a computer that moves from place to place.
Well, here's the thing. Look back at when I posted that. It was not clear from their presented data at that point.
And in fact, most of the time, it IS the case. It just wasn't once they'd later offered further info.
I was most certainly barking up the wrong tree, but that's only because of a lack of info at the time.
If you use a VPN (aand remember, DO NOT use a VPN to circumvent regional store restrictions here as it's against the rules you agreed to - you're fine for other use though) then that WILL change you IP address, meaning Steam sees that as a new computer and you have to log in again. That's how it's meant to work.
I suspected the VPN too since steam community is blocked in China. But today I turned off all VPNs and still got logged out in a few hours. The account cannot be possibly compromised since I have steam guard in a mobile phone with no internet connection and my login history showed all the login attempts were made by myself and in my city.
I now think it may be a bug related to either built in steam browser or somewhere else in steam app.
Poor design. No login has changed (at least for my issue).
Hopefully they fix this because it is really annoying having to type in my password again...and do the stupid email verification (which I know is there to protect my account...but I shouldn't have to do it). Having worked in IT, password managers were helpful, but I hate having to use passwords. I do it...but at home with a computer that already requires a login...I don't like having to re-log into Steam every time. There's a check box so I don't have to...
