steam forced me to reset mobile authenticator
two days ago, for some unknown reason, I got logged out of my account on all of my devices. I don't know how that happened, but then for some-reason I couldn't get my account back. I know nobody hacked it because I haven't lost any items, nor has my sign in status changed to online since I got logged out, so I was forced to reset my mobile authenticator because I couldn't sign in naturally through any of my devices. I went through a few loop-holes, and now I got my account back, but now I can't use the market or trade for 15 days, which is totally B-S. I've contacted support and all they've done is spit in my plate. I've been given a second chance by refuting one of the support answers, but that's all I've got. Is steam this busted?

Just curious, are you with T-mobile or AT&T?

So, you did not have any recovery or backup code ready and that is somehow Valve's fault?
You were even FORCED to wait to have time to write down the recovery code when you set up the authenticator.

As far as I know, the mobile authenticator has a code when you change devices that you have to have signed up for. If they don't let you trade for 15 days, it's the same as when you start with the mobile authenticator for the first time. I THINK

last time I set up authenticator was the first time I had to, and I've written the backup code multiple times on multiple devices (which i no longer own) and I have never had to use my authenticator or backup code til now. I was "FORCED" to look at my backup code like 8 years ago, and for 8 years steam has never given me an issue where I can't login. And being a ♥♥♥♥ about it doesn't help.

Why is it Steam's fault that you lost your password?

I never lost my password, my phone locked me out of authenticator so I couldn't log in even when I did have my password. I never said I lost my password.

Log back in. Requires an SMS.

yeah, I did that, which I had to reset my authenticator before I got my SMS, which sucks. I'm literally using the account that got locked out, I just want my temporary market ban lifted.

Not going to happen.
All cooldowns can not be shortened, removed or circumvented once triggered.

thank you for clarifying, I didn't know that. Now I guess I'll just have to sit and wait 15 days... Damn that sucks.

But.... all you need to log onto the authenticator is a username + password and optional SMS code. The only way this could have happened, as far as I can see it, is if you lost your username + password.

Honestly, you don't "just" get logged out "because" and your comment that nothing happened is proof that you didn't got taken over also doesn't hold: sometimes people wait for years to strike.

Instead: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

What does that tell you?

the domain shows nothing, and yes, my mobile DID lock me out, It asked for my mobile authentication and when I requested that I can't access my mobile authenticator (on the phone I use), it sent me through an authenticator reset and then sent me an SMS so I can then sign in. This is exactly what happened to me, and that is why I posted here.

it happens to me too

Note this is not the vicious come back you are thinking it is.

Again steam gives you multiple ways to recover your account. You losing literally all of them is your own fault, not steam's

Lets also ignore the fact that being forced to log out of all your accounts is likely a symptom of an accoutn hijack.

first of all, that wasn't a "comeback", that was me stating that It has been so long since I first and only had to ever check the backup code, which is only meant to be used as a last resort. My point here is that I never lost any of my login codes, rather that steam just completely forgot all of my devices, which shouldn't be possible. When you sign out of your mobile on steam, it is supposed to give you a code at the bottom for the mobile authenticator, which didn't show. I am aware that I should have kept my back-up code, but this is a literal bug that I experienced forcing me to reset my mobile auth when I don't have my backup code. Steam may give me multiple ways to recover my account, but most of them are just loop-holes or absolute customer service nightmares. What's funny is that this isn't half as bad as blizzard, lol.
