Steam Download UI is terrible
I spent some time looking around since I figure there must be a thread about this, there was but it got locked for some reason.

I've thrown a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money Steam's way over the years so I feel relatively justified in expressing my opinion that the new client is terrible. Like really really, how the hell did this get approved crappy. It wastes a ton of space, doesn't convey any new information and makes some information less obvious. It's like moving the deck chairs on a ship and replacing some of them with broken chairs.

Sigh, I'm sure it will never be reverted but god I hate this 'we have software devs assigned to a system so we have to give them something to do' style of development. Just pay them to do nothing and you'd have been ahead.

There are some features I like about the new download interface; however, I really hate how large the font is and how much wasted space there is in the entire design. At the very least, I wish Valve would implement a "compact mode" for its client (not just the "small mode" for the library), which would include the downloads page.

Well, really, the previous UI of the download page was just fine and no one really complained about it until now when Valve just updates the download page for "easy usage".

I could say right now it causes some mix reactions as some people are fond with the looks while many others are really not. For me, in my opinion, I am probably not quite liking it. I just prefer the previous UI better.

Every section of Steam is due to be replaced. It just happened to be the Downloads page this time around.

Well, I would've been fine had they not messed with the downloads page at all. I'm just saying that not everything they've done (regarding the downloads page) is terrible, but there are definitely some design elements that need to be changed.

I guess the big question is "why?" It worked fine before. Maybe it's because I'm a big proponent of the saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" but I don't understand why they'd change stuff that's working.

I can see where Valve is going with this, updating each UI pages on Steam so steam users can slowly get adapted to these sort of changes and try to get the old second generation of Steam to become a "futuristic" design with all these smooth animation designs, colors, etc.

I'd have to dig for details but essentially the client was originally all built on tech that has become outdated. So beginning with the Library update from 2019, each section is being overhauled to a modern standard. With that, they're taking the liberty to include redsigns to the overall look along the way.

The client has been evolving since it's inception 18 years ago.

You can reorder your downloads without hard pausing your current download. For someone with a slow internet connection that is so huge. I don't really care what it looks like. Why is everyone spending so much time in the downloads page that the looks of it is so jarring to see?

Didn't spend enough time looking it seems.
My favorite part is the "auto updates are enabled" button.
If you click it, there is nothing to disable it.

Why is the download info now on the right side? Because its new?

I'm looking to put out a CSS skin to replicate the old Downloads page a bit.
Unfortunately not completely because the functionality is different (eg: drag-n-drop in new one)

Can't straight disable auto updates. gay.

Any arguments or your just here to try to farm some points ?
old version was srsly outdated as you couldnt see all the necessary info you needed this new one gives you better control of your downloads and you can actually drag them now to select install order which is far better advantage over the original one
yep and also gives more performance over the old as well
