RUST ITEMS STOLEN
Someone please help. Just logged onto my steam account after only a week or so of not being on it and all of my Rust skins are gone. I am seeing people with the same problem on here and everyone is responding to them like they are crazy and it was their fault the items got stolen. All of my items were traded to some random account for nothing in return. I barely ever make trades, let alone trade away my entire inventory. It seems like my account has gotten hacked and my 2FA was compromised since I never got a single notification of someone logging in or a trade request. I have tried to file a ticket with steam support but it seems they don't support this game so I have contacted facepunch but I doubt they will do anything. It is ridiculous that steam wont look at cases like this were the items were clearly stolen. This is clearly a problem that is happening to other people and not just me so can someone please help.

So I take it you're done having any sort of discussion then?
Lost items are not returned, especially when you give out your account info resulting in the loss of the items. Don't login to places that want your Steam Login, and dont allow API keys.

I know no one will believe me that I did not give my information out but there are literally other people with this exact same problem.
And they all make the same mistake, thinking they didn't give out their info. Phishing sites are convincing, many people in the end find out they in fact did give away their info.

Nobody is saying you did it knowingly, but it did happen. Steam accounts don't get brute forced and there are far more valuable accounts that would be emptied had Steam actually been hacked.

Have you done the steps in the first post? Cause that's the most important right now, securing your account.
Items are gone, they won't be returned.

Honestly, this is the response one expects of a child that wants to act tough on the internet.

You can do something about it, your lost items on the other hand are gone for good and you were told why.

Your items are gone.
lulw, imaging being a dumb kid that gets his account compromised by own fault, then cry on the forums, pushing all guilt away, and then getting salty when youre smacked with the truth.

Yeah... right... i mean no offense, but why would someone specifically "hack" this account, when there're others with literaly thousands of $$$ worth of items they could "hack" instead?

Let's face it, in some way or another the user of that account did gave away his account informations, and that's it.

And don't you think, that Steam would get alerts from someone trying to find a way into their system, and then do something against it?

Anyway, why would someone waste time on trying to find a way into Steam, when all they have to do is promise "free stuff" and let the users give them their account details directly...

This is exactly what people on the other posts sounded like. the whole problem here is that they somehow took control of my 2FA and I did not get a single notification about someone trying to log in or trade my skins. They took control of everything and traded it for nothing. Also, like I said, no one was targeting me specifically, they don't care whos account they get in hacks like these as long as they can take their skins and run with them.
Your credentials got phished because you gave them away to a scam site previous. These were then login-botted into a real client and your API key was compromised which is used to control trade offers and destinations. There was no 'hacking' or anything like that - it's the very old and common API key scam that we've seen literally a hundred thousand times before.

obviously someone didn't directly target my account by saying like " oh this kid has good skins" which I didn't, I just had skins that I liked, but the person clearly used some algorithm or whatever the ♥♥♥♥ to get into my account I mean I had a solid 60 dollars worth of skins I know that might not sound like a lot but I have been accumulating those over the past two years. I just can't believe steam does not have a way to clearly tell when someone has been hacked and help that person.
No they didn't because that's nonsensical.

If they were capable of "just using somealgorithm" not only does this show you don't understand how these things work, but EVERYOBODY would be broken into.

Brute force hacks are all but impossible. When you have levels of encryption to the extent Valve use, there is no possible computing power that could use an algorithm to get into your account in a timely manner, let alone what some scammer has access to.

NO, again, you GAVE your details away, and you don't realise it. THat's the point. Confidence tricks work best when you're relaxed or your attention is diver5ted, so it's highly likely you don't recall logging into Steam (but it was actually not Steam at all) because it will have looked just like logging into Steam.

I will bet you any amount of money that it is NOT a brute force hack.

I'm not comfortable with beating up on anybody, and certainly not dismissing them as a kid. ANYONE can get scammed. ANYONE.

I've been phished before a couple of years ago. A few test payments via Facebook, and they tried to take money - my bank altered me. It wasn't apparent how it happened, but I later learned it was likely from a Lord of the Rings Online data leak.

So no, it can happen to anyone.

The thing is to NOT beat up on people for being a victim. The best approach is to explain how it works and so they can make better preparations and judgement in the future.

A Leak like in your case does not equal to a KID putting his login details into (i bet) some gambling site, for falling one of the dumb low effort scams we have on steam. And i call him a KID because he doesnt see his own mistakes and starts insulting people.

It doesn't matter.

You might think it's fine to beat up on anyone, but you're not thinking far enough ahead nor having empathy.

The fact remains that people who get scammed OFTEN get angry, and they're really angry with themselves, and it works itself out. Not only that, it is NEVER an excuse to beat up on them - that's exactly the same mentality as kids use on here when they see someone break the rules - they thinnk they can break the rules shouting at them. And it just doesn't work like that.

But more importantly, you need to runderstand it isn't just about the person making the comments and the respondee. It's about all the other people who read the thread and don't comment, both now and in future.

If they see childish, dumb unwelcoming ♥♥♥♥ from people pointing and laughing at misfortune then they're not likely to ask for help.

So, sorry but take your immature attitude because that's not what it's about here.

Idk I could picture a room full of north Korean computer hackers feverishly typing away to find a back door. Then the evil grins on their smug faces as they steal his skins to sell for a cool buck and a quarter.
No, just because you can imagine it, doesn't make it true.

That would be the WORST way to go about stealing stuff on here. Seriously, trying to brute force a well secured site with it's layers of encryption? Not going to happen.

Bunging up bait sites to appeal to people's greed and then they hand over their ID, that's FAR easier, which is why they do it.

Scams are confidence tricks after all.

Sarcasm cannot be detected in text format. Next time be more specific. "funny hah hah" to you doesn't read the same to anyone who's had this happen.

Mate, I'm fluent in sarcasm. One of my idols of comedy is Rik Mayall.

However, NOBODY is fluent in sarcasm that isn't spelled out in mere text where inflection cannot be demonstrated.

That's not obvious at ll I know (see what I did there?)
Messaggio originale di davidb11:
Yeah. As pointed out, you can't detect Sarcasm in written text without a lot of help.

Basically flashing arrows and the words, "This is sarcastic." is needed.
I tend to counter anyone who says "it was sarcasm, couln;t you tell" with

"oh you took my post seriously? I had my fingers crossed behind my back - couldn't you tell?"

;)
I didn't realize I needed to hit you in the face with it. Pretty much figured the selling it for a cool buck and a quarter was enough. It was enough for the guy I replied to. But from now on when replying to someone I'll make sure to throw some lol's at the end just for you.
