So one can wonder why after all the rhetoric. Kinda out of the blue.
And stranglely it is not linking to their dev page, just ubisoft general list. And it is not included on their dev page?
And from some of the threads in their forum, you need uplay started for some bugs to be fixed (Black screen). Not knowing anything about VR, since i can't use it.
Whatever the reason to launch on steam, their "We have left Steam", sounds a little hollow if needing steam for VR games. Just a little suprised.
edit:
I think you were right to point it out, I just felt it might be good to temper any expectations based on that title alone. As for their games ever coming back to Steam, even thought I don't mind buying a game on Uplay, I certainly notice them less because I almost never browse the Uplay store.
Oh yeah, they just changed it to Ubisoft connect. Don't know why they changed it. EA did the same I think.
now look, on steam its 100% possible uplay+ can come since valve implemented subs on the client.
I'd estimate that somewhere in excess of two thirds of Ubisoft's income derived from Steam.
Is it all about the 30% ? They can hardly complain of lack of exposure on the site.
S.x.
With the new revenue tiers, most, if not all their games will be getting a better cut.
How on earth can you say that unironically about a publisher that has an ongoing investigation about misconduct that has seen some key figures being released from the company? A company that was just a prevailant in the first big coverage about crunch?
A company was running five DRM solutions in one game that clearly affected the performance. And was the first that came up with an always-online scheme back in 2006 that was so bad that you could have lost progression when you lost your connection and of course got DDoSed the ♥♥♥♥ out of so people where unable to play their games.
A company that got heavily under flak for using footage of BLM protestand in their new trailer as terrorists.
A company that made towers into a meme and forcing the same mechanics into every. single. game? You had towers to unlock new parts of the map in The Crew. A freaking racing game.
Oh, and lets not forget the controversy around Watch Dogs graphical downgrade.
You sometimes seem to live in your own sheltered world ... but boy, did you looked at any newsoutlet in the last fifteen years, like, at all?!
Here is a rule of thumb to know whether a video games publisher is respected and doesn't have major dirt on them: there are none. And the bigger they are, the worse they get.
Seeing as PC games don't even have a market share of two thirds and Ubisoft is active on consoles and mobile ... a classic Galli.
They dressed their departure up like it was for the good of the gamer with Valve's cut being deemed too high, before then partnering with Epic who had the least feature-laden platform in existence. Fair enough if they wanted to sell all their games exclusively through uPlay to retain 100% of income after taxes but the deal with Epic was just pure business and nothing more.
Epic get one over on Steam and Ubisoft get further exposure of a different market (mainly Fortnite freebie kiddies) and most of the purchase traffic goes through uPlay regardless. The fact Ubisoft developed and published a VR title on Steam just shows that no matter how they try and play it, they still need Valve to help push aspects of their business and are not willing to cut off ties entirely.
Ubisoft will come shamefully crawling back I imagine especially when the Epic pantomime materialises into absolutely nothing in the short term.
