You probably picked one that looked like a half naked under age girl that is common with anime.

it doesn't show the body though. just the face and peace sign. it was under steam avatar profile.

peace sign is obscene gesture in some countries, so most likely was banned for that reason.

never heard of that before.

Places like United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, I think even India, and I know there are others, that gesture is obscene, similar to "flipping the bird"

I know that for the UK, having an inverted peace sign (with the back of the hand facing the viewer) is rude. But regular peace sign is not.

like I said, it is other countries around the world, and each one can have different social rules for its use, what way the sign is pointing may not matter in other countries and either way it is pointing is obscene in those countries.

But if it was only a face with the peace sign, then yeah, it is because of the peace sign. Just find a different avatar that doesn't use the peace sign and move on.

Showing the back of the hand with the index and middle finger in the U.K. is roughly equivallent to flipping off (raised middle finger) someone, and is disrespectful. But it's not the same as a peace sign or "V for victory". A peace sign is when the palm faces outward, not inward.

I love that everyone with the blatantly racist Asian avatar names are coming here claiming "OMG why was my avatar banned"

Do you think its funny that you're making fun of Asians? Do you? Do you get edgelord credit or something? GTFO

I am aware that thumb up is a swear sign in some country as well.

"What images can I upload as my avatar?"

You may upload any image as long as it is not offensive, vulgar, or specifically prohibited in the Steam Online Conduct rules. Your avatar may be removed and you may be banned from the Steam Community if your avatar is inappropriate.

What's the big deal ? Just take it as a lesson learned and make a new avatar. Problem solved.

Don't try to fight this as you will just be wasting your time. If the avatar was removed by Valve, then that's that.
