Auto-fill
I have a problem signing into this site that keeps repeating. I set a password and leave it in place to auto-fill the next time I sign on. But too often it doesn't. If I don't sign on for a period of weeks, I'll go back and find the site no longer accepting it. So I assume that that means that what it's auto-filling is wrong and try to remember the pw I set. I never can, though I probably come withing a digit, so I end up resetting it. And recently it happened even though I'm signing in recently. So I had to reset my pw again.

I don't know why this keeps happening, but it's getting old. Is there something that can be done to make it stop?

Something is deleting Steam's cookies.

I think the password is also changing every time this happens. But okay, how do I detect what would delete cookies from a site I frequent?

On steam's website my saved login also resets every month or so. I just got used to it. No cookies being deleted.

Exceopt they are because that's not normal behaviour.

It can be your antivirus, or some other security software or it can be your browser settings or plugins.

Both Firefox and Chrome autofill the Steam login page just fine for me.

Also, the cookie (that makes Steam not send a Steamguard verification and issue a trade cooldown) doesn't get reset. Initially I thought it might only stick around for a year, but I don't think that's the case.

It's also doesn't seem to get lost on server problems. Steam occasionally drops the login, especially when it's struggling like on a major sale, but never looses the guard cookie.

I suppose you could write down your password so you don't forget it.

If it still happens then I would check for virus / malware / keylogger and take the steps to make sure your account is still safe.

Could your family be using the same computer and logging into their own accounts?

I think you're right, come to think of it I do remember reading somewhere that the site resets passwords every month. And that would explain why it stops autofilling, and why what I remember it being also doesn't work.

It doesn't reset my password. At most it'll log me out, but every time I log back in I never have to retype the password.

Steam doesn't reset anything.

Additionally, please note that any of the following browser settings may keep your Steam Guard cookie and login credentials from staying stored for your next login:
  • Browser security is set to "high"
  • History is auto-cleared after a short period of time
  • Private browsing is enabled

Where does it say that?
