Steam Needs To Pay for my Internet because of Client Update using all my bandwidth after download changed my settings
I have Limited Satellite internet (20gb per month regular time , 50gb per month Bonus time from 2am to 7am) , Because of that , I set my Downloads to ONLY happen between 2am and 7am ... This morning I had 16.8gb left in my allotment for the month (regular time) , which starts over on the 16th of the month ..... So no issues , I was playing another game (Ubisoft , FarCry 5) , and when I finished , I looked at my Usage Meter (I only play Single Player in ALL my games because of Bandwidth limitations , and slow speeds) in my Taskbar , and it was now RED , so I opened it up and it said I had used ALL of my Data , and was now on Restricted usage and needed to BUY extra data (I have had this internet for 5 years , and have never needed to buy extra data) to continue to use the internet , again , I have till the 16th before it renews , today is the 2nd ..

So I scramble around my New PC trying to figure out why in a hour , all my data was used up ..... I thought it was UPlay (Ubisoft) client , so I called up my internet , and got 1.7gb of data ...... within 10 minutes , that was gone .... I could not figure it out , so after checking Windows Updates , nothing new downloaded, and everything else on my system , I decided I would open Steam to check it , even though I knew I had set the Downloads to ONLY happen between 2am and 7am , so when I opened Stam I saw it WAS DOWNLOADING right then ...... So I went to downloads , and it had downloaded 19+gb of a 36+gb game (COD AW) , that I had already installed from the disks that I bought the game on , , I was PISSED ..... so I went to Settings , and everything I had set up when I first installed everything on the new PC 3 weeks ago , had been cleared ....

The only thing I can think of , is when Steam is opened , for whatever reason it updates , every friggin time I open it , why Steam needs to Update every friggin day is beyond me , I do NOT Play online , Only Single Player , so I can install a game from disk and never update it and be fine ..... but Steam has a mind of its own , and it just cost me $30.00 , to add more data so I can make it to the 16th , when my bill regenerates ..... So Steam owes me that money , and I want resolution right now .... I am beyond pissed , because some MORON that programs these Updates for Steam , was STUPID enough to allow it to change my settings , that I had no reason to check because I knew what I set them to , but some crap update I did not need in the first place , just screwed me out of my internet and cost me money , I don't have , and should not have had to pay , because I did not cause my internet to suck all my bandwidth without my permission , Steam did , I was not informed in this unnecessary update that changed my settings (the ONLY way they could have been changed , because I certainly would not do it) that my settings had been cleared , and since the CRAPPY Steam Support wont take Phone Calls , I have to revert to the Forums to get this resolved .....

I contacted my internet provider (Hughes Net) and they tried to contact Steam , to resolve this , as even they said Steam should Reimburse me , and actually tried to do a 3 way call , but for some reason , they got disconnected and Steam just gave a Recording , then the recording said they wont do Phone Support and it hung up , which is BS ..... So here I am pissed off , and I want this resolved before my next bill generates on the 16th of this month

I am waiting for a email and a direct deposit into my bank account , and I am not joking .... this is beyond BS on Steams part , for allowing something like this to happen , not everyone has unlimited Cable internet , some of us that live in rural areas , have to depend on expensive limited bandwidth Satellite , and YOUR Steam Client just screwed me out of over half of mine , and I have proof of everything showing the data usage and when ... Steam needs to build a wall, and have Epic Games pay for it!

"I play only SP games"

Anyway good luck waiting for that direct deposit.

They would bin this whiny rant instantly.

Get better internet service. You know your internet limits. You are 100% responsible for keeping to them.

Steam is a program, it will pay for nothing. ;)

Steam also doesn't update every day. If it does, there is something wrong with the Steam install on your end. Keep that in mind.

You say you want this resolved, yet you post on a user forum. You won't reach Valve here. So you can wait til the end of times if you approach it this way.

Contact Steam support. Don't expect much, though.

Don't steam updates tend to be between 65 mb and 200 mb?

He somehow ♥♥♥♥♥♥ his steam install and it re-downloaded COD A&W.

I also don't get how this user assumes Valve owes him reimbursement, or would even entertain the demand?
cinedine 2/ago./2020 às 23:57
You know there is an offline mode?

Also at second reading: how many disks came CoD:AW on? I somehow doubt that you installed it from disk. And even if so, it was outdated and before launching would require an update.

You absolutely NEED to set the update options for each one of your STEAM games and IF you are playing a game on a particular service, Uplay, STEAM, Epic or GOG you NEED to make sure you are not running them, sign out or disconnect and absolutely do NOT let them begin when you start your machine up. This will help control your data usage as well.

Only run the one you're currently using. Plus right click on every STEAM game and set the option for them to update ONLY when you play them.

Do not forget to set your options on every program too. This saves a ton of issues and trouble with games or game applications automatically updating. It is a bad idea to let them auto update. I usually update them right before I begin to play them, minus say Skyrim updating because I hate CC updates that ruin your SKSE reliant mods.

No, STEAM will NOT pay you for a mistake on your part.

get unlimited high speed internet?, wtf's this limited bandwidth garbage you speak of??
8ullfrog 3/ago./2020 às 1:01
Not everyone has the option of either unlimited or high speed. Especially rural areas. I've been there.

The COD games are known update monsters, I believe current COD patches run around the 30 gb range.

The ISP were ♥♥♥♥♥ for proposing this solution.

I still remember when the XBONE launched, an audience member asked what people without internet access were supposed to do, and they were instructed to buy an Xbox 360.

According to the HughesNet website....

ALL PLANS INCLUDE:
Unlimited Data - No Hard Data Limits!††

If you exceed your plan data, we won't cut you off or charge you more. Stay connected at reduced speeds, typically 1-3 Mbps.

††If you exceed your monthly plan data, you will experience reduced speeds, typically 1-3 Mbps, until the next billing cycle.

Soooooo..... Not the best service in comparison but if it's all you have access to you're still not cut off completely when you use up your bandwidth allotment.

If someone makes a limit setting, it should not be changed on its own.

Imagine that happens on a smartphone. You could end up poor.

Valve is the company, Steam is a program

You are not going to get any sort of official response here, I doubt anyone who works for Valve will even read it

The final user is responsible for any internet fees they may incur while using Steam.

https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/
G. Free Subscriptions

In some cases, Valve may offer a free Subscription to certain services, software and content. As with all Subscriptions, you are always responsible for any Internet service provider, telephone, and other connection fees that you may incur when using Steam, even when Valve offers a free Subscription.

In the future you might want to put Steam in Offline mode once your games are up-to-date to avoidn further updates.

And since it's the same game whether you play it SP or MP it's going to demand to be updated due to the MP part of it before launch.
As someone who also is a mostly SP gamer I kind of miss when both the SP and the MP part of games were more independent.
