Games like Viva Piñata?

are there any games on steam that are like viva piñata? like building a garden and taming animals, and such. i have jwe and planet zoo, but they are very different (you buy/create the animals rather than tame them) and more focused on building a park rather than a garden. any help is much appreciated!!

Hi Red,

Closest I know would be Stardew Valley where you build your own farm (amongst other things).

Now that Microsoft are back on Steam I'd love to see a remake of this game on Steam.

thank you! ive heard stardew valley is a really good game but i feel like its still too different from what im looking for. i completely agree with you, but honestly i'd be happy even if it was just a port!

Whilst Stardew Valley doesn't have the animal catching it has the elements of designing the farm how you want and growing what you want.

Viva Pinata is one game of a Kind actually.

I've played a lot of games on a wide range of Plattforms and I never encountered any game that was even close to it.

The closest you will probably get is something like Harvest Moon for Nintendo DS but on PC you won't find anything close to VP

Sadly the only other games I found similar in the animal taming aspect was the Sims Animals series, but it doesn't really have a garden building aspect, just the attracting animals with specific requirements >.<'
(That said I only played the ds versions >.<

Unfortunately there aren't any games like it, which is a shame. There are many games that share elements, but they're far different.
Hopefully one day we will get a rerelease of the first game on PC, or they release its sequel.

I know this discussion is very old but I just found a game that gives me some Viva Pinata vibes and I wanted to share it with other Viva Pinata fans. It's called OddFauna and it just started as a Kickstarter campaign. (It should be available early next year on Steam). You play as an adorable little creature and the world is on the back of a massive creature called a Terrabeast. You can terraform the land, grow plants and build things. Everything you do affects the world. Depending on what biomes you have, plants, water, etc, you can attract different creatures that you can make friends with. (There are also some bad ones that you don't want to attract, just like in Viva Pinata.) In that aspect, it seems very much like Viva Pinata. Also, the art style is adorable and very unique, which I love.

hi red, i was actually thinking the same thing myself recently when i looked for it,sad isnt it? such an indepth involving game that a lot of people have probably never heard of let alone played.

i can recommend Meadow, shelter 1, shelter 2 and shelter 3 to you- i am obsessed with animal based games and theyre all by the same developer.
Meadow is online based,and you play as an animal (for example,im a badger cub at the moment) and the world is so chilled out, you communicate with others via visual icons that show up above your head for a moment to tell the other person how you feel, you may play together or might run from them,its a very interesting game-very involving but calming as well like viva pinata was, there are different tasks to do but mainly its getting involved with other breeds of animal and learning to get along with them.

Shelter 1/2/3 (3 has just been released,i got it the minute it came out lol), are deeper and darker than meadow, and death is possible.... you play a parent of a pack/ herd of animals,you have got to keep them safe from predators, keep them watered and fed and dont let them stray from you.
they also made a older game called 'Paws' with similar graphics but ive never played it, ive just bought an Okami style game called 'Spirit of the north' i think? havent played it yet leaving it till tomorrow morning-but very similar to Okami HD, looks absolutely gorgeous in art style even though there is no cell shading as with Okami HD.

Yeah sadly there's nothing like Viva PInatas games.

As other shave said the closest in feel is Stardew Valley and it's not really that close, as it's more like Harvest Moon.

I wish I had a better answer but there you are.
