Sooo I deleted Steam and lost all of my screenshots.
More than 30K pictures in the span of 6 years.
Now I can't look at my steam library without feeling pain.
And I have the big sad.

That's what you get when you ignore the warning the uninstaller gave you.
Not to mention the additional warning given by Steam Support:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9609-OBMP-2526&l=
Why did you not upload them with steam?

Uploading 30K Screenshots is not exactly...possible considering the space limit.

Warning? Eh, I guess. I actually learned about that page after I got my Steam deleted.
Maybe a pop-up would be nice, as it said it'll only delete steam, not the game's screenshots and other media (the games themselves made sense to be deleted)

Just saying, there is 19gb space for that.

I think, steam should tell that it deletes everything in the folder that steam was installed in. Others lost everything on their desktop, or the whole drive if they messed up installing steam in an own folder......

Steam Screenshots are stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[your user ID]\760\remote

Screenshots for each game are sorted by [game ID]\screenshots

GameSave Manager will also back up these for you:
https://www.gamesave-manager.com/

If you deleted Steam, unfortunately they are most likely gone.

What a seriously pathetic place to put all the precious screenshots..

Shouldn't they be in a custom location chosen by a user .. or at least in a SCREENSHOTS folder.. my my.

Since they are all stored in that one folder, that's what you should have copied or moved before deleting anything.

When you delete a program and all its files... what exactly are you really expecting to happen?

Because this is pretty much "it gets deleted".

I'm sorry that you lost your files, have you attempted recovering anything from your hard drive?
Use recuva to see if you can recover the files. Don't write or delete anything else to the drive till you attempt to recover your data.

I would imagine it'll depend on WHY the OP deleted steam?

At all? "needing to use it for space on that drive" or "moving stuff didn't need that whoops"... I mean it could be anything, but hopefully the data is still there to be recovered, even if not complete.

The whole thing bugged out, getting stuck on the Entering Profile: >username<
And from what I read the only ways to fix it are either Administrator (didn't work) or re-installing it.
Safe to say, I would've liked if that didn't happen.

As for the data, most of my save files were ok.
My screenshots could not be recovered tho. But I'll probably get used...after 6+ months or so.

That's a bummer. :(

Sometimes the cause of steam being buggy like that is outside of Steam's control itself - usually windows updates, firewalls, and the like, are to blame, but with every single computer being different for whatever reason (drivers, hardware/software, OS details, etc etc) it's impossible to pin things down very easily.

I hope that it doesn't happen again for ya.

Thanks. I hope it never happens again too. At least now I know what happens.
