PC users have to upgrade or buiy new machines yes but they don't need to do it as frequently and when they do they generally don't lose any of their library.
Pointless statistics is pointless.
What is a "PC player" in them? Someone who plays solitaire or minesweeper? Someone who plays browser games? Somone who plays casual games on PC but core games on console?
I'll never understand how the console war mentality still manages to remain so ingrained in gaming culture.
Steam boxes could have been a way to make PCs more significant in gaming, but Valve didn't want to or didn't have the budget to actually pull it off. I'm pretty sure no store put a "Steam box" next to their XBox, Nintendo and Playstation displays.
The console audience was always about button-smashing. While PC had a mix of genres including casual, light strategy and real thinking-related stuff.
Unfortunately for some time devs look for cross-breeding and be PC suffers from ports of mobile and console things.
on pc i think all 4 numbered games . as well as revolution and strikers have an online mode ( not sure about the first ) so if theres 10.000 people who like playing naruto on each platform , on console there would be 5.000 in each of the two games on current gen , on pc there would be only 1.666.6 per game if all games have an equal amount of players , and thats just players for one franchise
same goes for call of duty , pc has almost all entries , and even though black ops 2 is already 6 years old , it still has a 1-2 thousand player peak , average numbers only started going below 1k in april 2018 ,
mw2 even has a similar peak despite being 3 years older
however , what this means , is that people arent forced to get black ops 3 or 4 since the old one isnt playable anymore , on consoles you have no option other than playing blops 3 and soon 4
and lastly , for single player gamets the reason is simple aswell , on current consoles you can only play final fantasy xv , type 0 and for ps4 x and x-2 , of course more people will play xv , especially since last gen only had the 13 trilogy which not everyone enjoyed
on pc , you can play every ff except 1 and 2 , so the number of people who play each game is alot lower
consoles also arent cheaper , i remember how expensive every game was on 360 , even though i bought it rather late , rarely was a game below 20-30€ , on pc , most games can be bought for less than 10€ on sales , even new games get dirt cheap soon ( just cause 3 is not even 3 years old and square throws the gold edition after players for less than 10€ (the reason is simple ,the game isnt really wanted anymore and by making prices so low square knows many will buy it )
next , own a console for 5 years and you pay 300€ for playing online , on top of the 400-500€ a new console costs , already at 700-800€ , not counting the possibillity of a console dying and having to be replaced
if you want to play old games again , you need to buy a remaster , like return to arkham or the ezio collection
consoles might appear cheap at first , but overall , they are very expensive
my pc maybe was around 2000 € more or less but the number of games i actually bought for full 60€ is super slim , most games are so cheap during sales its not even funny , we are talking 4.99€ or below , you wont even find used games for this low , if you buy 100 games for 5-20€ on sale compared to buying them for a console price of 30-60€ (which already is only 1/2 of the launch price and it will take a long time for them to get this cheap ) you pay 500-2000€ , meanwhile on consoles you pay 3000-6000€ , on launch games also are rare , you get a few to chose but overal , its very bare bone for 1-3 years
no backwards compatibility isnt helping either
i couldnt find a list ,but i doubt ps4 has more than 200 exclusives that arent on pc , all other games that launched on ps4 are on pc aswell , so if you say pc only has a few decent games , you basically just said consoles havent had a decent game in 3 gens , since pc has games from ps2-ps4
well done , you just said it yourself , consoles are garbage
1. Yes console use lower end hardware / few generations back, but also has ways to lower the manufacturing cost from deals they make with the supplier, and the material used, as well how much is used.
On the PC side we just buy parts from a number of manufacturers, of course they're all competing agasint each other to lower the prices but not close enough to console market prices unless we cut out the dedicated GPU, and not going for a Mid/High end CPU, but if we're not matching the console prices we have access to hardware that is staggering more powerful than any console has on the market, hardware that can do 4k, and even higher, while on console you have to pay little more than the stander console to even have ability to access 4k, but not true 4k unlike the Xbox One X, but even that has limits as well when taking on 4k.
Community / User base
2. While it's true that userbase always been high for the console side, the PC Steam community has been growing over the years, as well Steam with services, games, and much more.
Longevity and Gaming
3. For consoles they can last depending how well you take good care of them, but consoles are replace every 3 - 8 years just to get the next console generation to play newer games, but at the same time, you lose access to your old games, if you trade/sold off your older console, just to get the new console, not only that, unlike X1 which all you have to do is hope they add the game to the compatibility list for the X360 titles, but on all others, you just lose access, even if they port the game to the newer gen console, you have to buy it again even if you bought it digitally.
For PC you lose nothing, there's nothing to lose at all, compare to console, PC can last as long as long as you wanted depending how well you take care of it, there's no need to replace hardware as much, unless you felt you wanted to, or needed to, you can be use older hardware to play all the latest, and newest games, or even getting the newest hardware, and still be able to play the older games, as long they meet, or greater than the system minimum specs you would be able to play the game. While on PC you have access to all the games you bought over the many years. Even if something were to happen to the PC, and have to replace it, you still have access to all your games regardless.
How I see it IMO:
Console - Looking forward, meaning leaving old games behind, but aim towards newer games.
PC - Preserving the whole gaming history.
Who you can buy from, and Restrictions
4. While on console, you can buy from almost anyone for physical copies of the game, but if there's a limited amount of it, that could drive the cost of it, for digital copies, your limited only getting it from the main supplier, and you will only get a discount on the games you wish to get when they felt like it, who do they have to compete on their own platform for digital sale? That's kind of the problem. Also when they do have a sale, the discount range from 10% to 75% off, but most of the time it's 10% to 25% off.
While on PC you can buy your game from a whole range of online retailers digital copies, or even physical copies for those old games, and they're all competing with each other, could cost games to lower prices, and when sales happen, it usually that almost all the games would be discounted for most of the online retailers, such as Steam, GoG, or etc having upto 99% of their games getting a discount upto 90% off, most common would be 50%, or 75% off, which why it's so appealing compare to the console, such as getting a big title game for $30 on Console that with their discount apply to it, compare to PC side getting it low as $20, or less, which again why it's so appealing compare to the console.
Game Optimization and Limits
5. On console it's expected by most users, that the devs/pubs optimize their games properly, so they can have the best experience they can possibly get while trying to keep the target FPS such as 30, or 60. But to do so, they may have to cut something out, or having to turn down the texture quality, lighting, and etc...
On PC, no one expects any of the games to be perfect, or good for optimization, they only hope that when they start the game for the 1st time, they see that the devs/pubs done some optimization to the game at the very least, instead of half-assing it, but users do expect to have some controls, and options to make changes to the game to meet their needs, or the devs/pubs wish to show, but can't on console due to the limited hardware horsepower, and having to keep it optimize at the target FPS, while on PC the target FPS isn't always think of, but more like what the users wants, maybe wants higher graphic settings, higher FPS, or etc.. With PC if you have the horsepower to push, then you can have it all. Now if the devs/pubs makes a game that doesn't have optimization you either get bad performance, glitches, or not able to fully use your hardware. But there's a far lot more good games that are somewhat optimize, or been optimize well, than there is games that has no optimization, and everyone knows if you make a bad game, no one wants to buy, so it's been a trend to always make sure to at least do some optimization, and recheck their work.
