Chargeback
I had a problem with a game I bought, if I dispute it on valve what happens. Do they respond to the dispute, what happens if undispute it, and what should I do?

If you meet the requirements you get a refund, if you do a chargeback from the payment provider, the account will lose functionality, maybe temporarily, maybe permanently.

What’s the exact issue?

Go here and select the game you are having issues with:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGame

Don't chargeback via your payment provider as Valve will consider that to be fraud.

If your game has less than 2 hours playtime and less than 14 days ownership you can request an automatic refund via Steam Support.

Don't ruin a 15 year old account with a chargeback...

Well, that do you think will happen when you commit fraud?

No, they do not respond to the dispute.

They lock your account from adding any more games, until you reverse the chargeback. Can't even add keys, funds or make any purchases.

A better idea:

What game and what is the issue with it? Maybe we can either help or direct you to where you can get help.

Would I get into any legal trouble, tell me exactly what they do. Do they just lock the account.

Yeah I’m not gonna do it I was thinking about it but more than 2/3 of my life was here. I grew up here so I doubt I’d do it, I’m just kind of curious tbh.

People may think that when a chargeback is filed, it kicks off a fancy and organized process where the bank or credit card processor calls the merchant to discuss and figure out the specifics of a transaction. Then they get back to the consumer with a response. And that might happen for huge purchases. However for small purchases, the cost to investigate would be so much more than just returning the money. So what actually happens for small chargebacks is the credit card company either forcefully takes back the money from the merchant or the bank eats the cost. When the bank eats the cost, that ultimately gets passed back to consumers. This is partly why you really should only file legitimate chargebacks where actual fraud took place (i.e. unauthorized purchases that took place after your card was stolen).

Alright I read it. Thank you! Yeah sorry about that I just wanted to know. So I can just contact steam for a refund right, j don’t have to do a chargeback cause I know those are a pain in the ass.

Just as a heads-up, for the first 6 years of your account you are lucky it didn't get deleted due to US law.

what game is your issue with and what exactly is the issue? 9 times out of 10 if you share it on the forums, someone knows how to fix it
