I think they don't want to share the money Minecraft makes with Valve.

I know... It's strange, I don't play minecraft anymore but I think that this is a mojang option to not add it on steam. ...:LIS_butterfly:

Same reason EA pulled out: Money, more specifically, DLC.

You see, EA were selling their games on Steam for a long time. But then they started selling their DLC "In-Game" so to speak. This was to try and circumvent Valve's 30% cut. Now Valve as far as I understand basically said, they could sell their DLC where ever they wanted, BUT they had to sell it on Steam too. Seems fair to me, not so much to EA. Having Origin around, they pulled pretty much all their big stuff, at the time, out, left some bits, and scuttled off to Origin, never to be seen again.

Well, Minecraft is basically the same thing. Notch wanted to sell capes and doo-dads and connect to Minecraft.Net and didn't want to try to work within Vavle's policy because why would you when you're already printing money ? He argued it would split the community and blah blah, yadda yadda crap if you ask me. No other game has "split" communities that exist both here and out in the "free market".

Anyway, that's why it's not on Steam.

Steams better off without Ea. Geez the sims 4 asking price, then a billion dlcs 10 - 20 dollars each where most add little content. I once counted up all the sims 3 dlc and it was idk 300 dollars on sale I think. Ea was also the one who wanted everything always online I think like sim city.

They killed so many games I liked such as Command and conqure. And every sim game except sim city and the sims.

But yeah, its about the munnies.

Actually, no. Since then Microsoft has acquired Mohjang and there is no reason not to put it on Steam along with their other games now.

Also I looked up minecraft just now and apparently they are adding community coins to it aka micro transactions to the win 10/console versions. And very likely in the future no longer updating the java minecraft version.

Now I just feel sad.

Actually, Microsoft has done little to change or otherwise subvert most of the business strategies which pre-existed the acquisition. In a departure from MSoft's usual M.O., they've taken a fairly hands-off approach (so far), wisely deciding to "not fix what ain't broken."

But as far as the original policy, it's because there simply was no reason to. As one of the most popular games of all time, with a presence on virtually every gaming platform there is, it's not like they needed the extra publicity. They've been printing money with their direct sales model, why share any of it with another vendor?

Actually yes. It's the same issue. DLC, 30% cut, MS doesn't want to lose that money. What in the world do the owners have to do with anything ? The infrastructures are still in place,Minecraft.NET is still a HUGE part of Minecraft. Again I'll say it, since you seemingly missed it in my original post. Why would you bother putting it on Steam when it already prints money on PC just the way it is ? Furthermore, when you now have a store front of your own, why put it on Steam AT ALL ? Also, which NEW games has Microsoft put on Steam ? Oh, that's right, 0...oh, wait, 1...Quantum Break.

Exactly. There is absolutely no logical reason why Microsoft would require their IP to be put on Steam unless they wanted to lose 30% income per copy sold plus feed the competition in the process. The brand is world famous and the launcher which has been in place for years functions perfectly.
