Whats with the flood of terrible chinese (??) ripoff games here lately?
For a few weeks i keep getting suggestions for games with descriptions in what i assume is chinese, that are clearly blatant ripoffs. They seem to come from shady developers that i havent heard of in my life. Where do they come from? Did Steam make a contract with some Chinese developer that needs to sell his ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games on the western market or something?

steam is an international platform, available in nearly every country. you shouldn't assume they are rip-offs just because you can't read what the words say.

>lately

they've always been here, sadly.

Actually, I'll give the answer and the previous two posters are WRONG... The reason that Steam is being utterly flooded by crap chinese knockoffs and resource fliips (games hodged together from cheap, purchasable reasources and rushed out the door) is because Steam ended the Greenlight Program. No one ever gets to vote on new games from indie developers anymore. Instead it's a flat $100 to buy a game's spot in the store and Steam actually predicted that doing this was going to result in a flood of absolute garbage from people taking advantage of their new system, but according to them it is also supposed to slow down and become more dependable once things adjust, but I would not count on it.

The TLDR version: Because Steam is going to hell in a handbasket.

Recommendations will show you why a game is being recommended to you. Read and learn why you're being shown these games as recommendations.

Recommendations has never worked lol. I've got free to play, free 2 play, f2p, free games filtered out, my recommendations is filled with free to play games even though I've never played one.

Yeah. Same here. I excluded Anime, Visual Novel, JRPG, Pixel Art and more stuff, and they pop up all the time

Well it's free what do you expect it's exactly what you want in your communist dream state. Everything is free and everyone gets the same. no reason to stand out, enjoy.

Dunno about you but the vast majority of the games I see are in English.

Also the forum has multiple sections for non-English languages.

Steam itself has a huge variety of language options for the interface.

I'm not even sure communism exists anymore. China might still be holding onto it, but its basically been dead for 20 years, maybe more, was starting to die far before that.

Ripping off/copying technology and products is deep part of modern chinese culture

The last couple of days have seen an influx of Chrinese PUBG bot accounts as well. They're easily recognizeable because they're often "friends" with one another, only own a single game (PUBG) and post nonsensical threads and posts on the forums that just contain a bunch of characters or digits.

It's annoying >_<

I assume the nonsensical threads/posts are because they're trying to get trade rights, or something, so the owners can transfer farmed items to their main account.
