Why does everyone hate Denuvo
I don't understand why people hate anti-piracy software on their games, can anyone explain this?

Because they're forced to buy on release or buy in general for some of those games. Or they're paranoid.

a mix of poor copy protection and the software hampering hardware performance

Three things mainly:-

- It impacts performance on some games
- Its extended intrusive usage is questionable
- It is completely unreliable for publishers and developers

4 you need a internet connection. Even for singleplay.

Only if it's very badly implemented.
Which isn't particular to Denuvo but true for pretty much everything.

Like you need for most games on Steam or any other launcher.

With steam you can still play offline. You get the choice if there is a connection fail.
I don't hate it, but because my internet doesn't hold up always, I just don't want to risk being unable to play (or losing progress) just because the ISP's service is out for one reason or another. Not very fond of the idea of my single player games being held hostage by the internet connection, that's all.

it's a rootkit
it solves nothing
affects perfomance
publishers force it down into buyers throath and refuse to remove it after their hyperbolic sales milestone is reached
any company who uses it automatically gets a free third strike you're freaking out from me

it's rational to hate spyware/viruses/rootkits

I don't believe gamers do, only small section of gamers hate it. Put it this way, if you hate something so much then you wouldn't buy, play or use that product.

Gamers complain endlessly about denuvo but doesn't stop them from buying games with it on.

The real question is, why even have Denuvo in the first place? Another DRM on top of Steamworks that is proven to have a performance impact, kernel level anti-cheat and constant internet connection which are only going to affect real, honest consumers. It's also proven that games with Denuvo removed run much better than the copy you buy legally, it's not that I hate Denuvo, but I hate anti consumerism, and this is a clear example of it

I hate being tarred with the same brush as cheaters. Target the source of the cheats, the websites that sell them, the people that make them etc instead.

Yea, jeopardizing the experience of honest users to try and remove a minority of cheaters is just not the way to solve the problem

Performance. Play borderlands 3 or doom eternal or something with denuvo and then without it. Some have kernel acsses as well.
