What is WISHLIST?
What is it, the wishlist?

Is it just a way of subscribing to the game storepage on STEAM to get notifications about discounts and offer updates? Is it a way of telling: STEAM, I signalize there is something wrong here and you need to check out what is wrong, so that people bought the game instead of adding it to the wishlist? Is it maybe a way of telling: the game got me interested and I express it, but it is unlikely I will ever buy it due to whatever the current reason, presumably price, then due to moving forward and loosing the hype? Is adding to wishlist a substitute for purchasing, a fake-buy? Is it a call to others to get the game for someone on an occasion of some sort in the manner of a gift?

Whatever the thing is, observing how long the games can linger on a wishlist of a generalized STEAM customer, I would advice the publishers to do whatever necessary to make people buy their games right off the bat rather than making people add the things to wishlist, because wishlist often equals graveyard.

Yeah... this thread isn't going to be derailed because people stop reading and start responding halfway through the first paragraph...

The wishlist enables people on your friends list to figure out what you like, and maybe get it for them. Or, reminding you that a game exists and you mean to play it some day but keep forgetting about it. Or, waiting for a sale. I mean, what the hell do you THINK a wish list is?

Perhaps I am overthinking the thing a bit, although my point comes from assumption that once a thing enters the WISHLIST, it is hard for it to leave it either out or in to the library.

...... You know that people have lists of stuff they want for, say, graduation, marriage, children being born, etc.... The only difference is that it's called a 'gift registry' and other people are expected to pay for the stuff.

Pay for the graduation, marriage, kids and so on or the STEAM games?

Are you new?

Pay for the gifts on the registry. As in, "oh we're having a baby! we'll need a carseat and toiletries and clothing!" or "we're getting married, and could totally use a new set of dishes, but also we'd really like some movie tickets". For steam wishlist, it's basically "omg I have to have this dlc, oh and this other one, and that game that I've been meaning to try."

It's literally no different. Nothing's stopping anyone from buying those things for themselves, a wishlist is... just a check list, and on steam it means someone will be clued in to what you WANT instead of just throwing random crap at them.

Speak for yourself.
During sales I normally buy most of the stuff from my wishlist rather the featured items on store front.

You're only speaking for yourself there. See. Many of us do not buy things on sight. We like to resaearch, and chew over the purchase, some prefer to wait for a discount or priuce drop..

The majority of people seem to use the Wishlist as sort of a shortlist. Whenever there's a sale, it's easy to just check the wishlist first.

Yaknow, wishlist is pretty cool if you keep it reasonably compact.
