probably something that's required if someone tries to install Steam on an Ubuntu system.

it's a 49-byte text file.

Well, I think it's more related to what you have installed on Steam, maybe you got any specific extensions or something?

Because I don't have that folder, also on Win10. Common (obviously), downloading, music, shadercache, sourcemods, temp and workshop. And that's it.

Ah, I did find something in the program folder itself: ubuntu12_64, but as Raw also said: that only contains a textfile so it's hardly something to worry about.

Windows 7 here and I have an Ubuntu folder. So not just W10. Wouldn't worry about it.

I have an empty "ubuntu12_64" folder in my Steam directory, last modified mid 2021.

Im just guessing its just a leftover artifact from a broken distribution setup, when they accidentally added an Ubuntu-only folder into the Windows install. Then they noticed their mistake, fixed it, but apparently their updater doesn't remove unused folders.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
