Is there any way I can request to lock a thread?

Which would be straight abuse of the report function. That function is meant to help moderators to keep the forums safe and not to make moderators your personal secretaries

Either leave a comment on their profile (not recommended because thats annoying) or mark your Thread in an obvious way like "[CLOSED] SampleTitle" via the edit function
Moderators will see it eventually and close it

If a thread goes off-topic, it could be a reason to get locked. But true, alternative is to unsubscribe and ignore the thread.

Waiting is recommended because closing threads is one of the lower priorities for moderators

Unsubscribe and don't go back to it.

If people want to continue the thread, then they are free to do so. You are free not to continue to participate in the thread. Unsubscribing will make it so you will not get notification from the thread.
