Unfortunately, Steam Support won't restore items that have left accounts for any reason...

Did you take the proper steps to secure your account after the fact? Here are some you can take:

1. Scan for malware with your antivirus.

2. Deauthorize all other devices: https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

3. Change passwords from a safe computer.

4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App: https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke the API key: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (If there's nothing to revoke, then you're fine)

Of course it is sad that you lost all your valuable items but Honeypot Trap is right - regardless of how expensive your inventory was the support won't restore anything. It would be abused way too much.
Brimzel Apr 22, 2020 @ 7:52am
Yes, Support itself stated they won't restore items.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9958-MJDG-3003

"Steam Support does not restore items that have left accounts for any reason, including trades, market transactions, deletions, or gifting.

It is your responsibility to secure your Steam account.

Steam Support will no longer restore lost items. Items often exchange hands multiple times before a restoration request and this means they cannot be restored without duplicating them or removing them from another innocent user’s inventory. Duplicating items has a negative impact on everyone who trades or uses the Market by lowering the value of items."

All you can do now is report the scammer and try to secure your account better. I'm sorry.

But would there be an special case in this matter? if we users literally got scammed genuinely, no intention of abuse? well I hope steam support can respond to this matter urgently. What disturbs me is just scammers can get away with these kinds of things, that is infuriating.

Can you guys help me report this scammer account? Look even at its name, it even says bot #2300, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lucky me I'm the 2300 person to get scammed. They need to IP ban and all that sorts of things. This account has 9808 Dota items, damn man Steam you better do something about this.

Thank you for your help, I have followed all the steps. Expensive experience learned, I'm not that salty as long as that account got banned and any necessary follow up is made to prevent that person behind the account is stopped.

I'm also wondering on what happens then to all those items in that scammer account? back rotating to the market or to just straight deletion? a shame isn't it?

The account will most likely get locked, and the items will fall into the void, and by that I mean they won't go anywhere. If they manage to get it into the market, then yeah, they'll become a part of it. Here's what we have from Support:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3415-WAFH-6433#whathappens

"What action is taken when a scammer is found?
If evidence exists that a Steam user is scamming, Steam Support will ban the account from using the Steam Community, including trading and using the Steam Market. The length of the ban is dependent on the severity and quantity of the scams. In some cases, scammers will be banned permanently. If a scammer has multiple accounts, all of their accounts may be subject to the ban as well.

In rare cases, scammers will hijack an account and use it to commit scams, fraud, or other hijackings. In these cases, we lock the account until the rightful owner contacts us and we will take appropriate action."

Reports from people not involved will do more harm than good. Report the profile yourself, that is all you can do. The number of reports does not matter. Also, remove the links as that is considered naming and shaming. It is against Steams rules and will hurt your cause rather than help it.

People can't help you report someone because we didn't have direct contact with them. Reporting someone out of the blue and without having had any contact with them can and will account for a false report. Trying to rally a mob on Steam is therefor a bad idea.

There's also the issue that just because you claim that you got scammed doesn't make it true; for all we know you could be fabricating a story. Note: I am not claiming that you do, I'm saying that there's no way for us to be sure about that.

Also: scammers are taken care off, the main thing is that us users wont see that happening. Most likely it's an account that got taken over and abused.

Looks like you've been using scam sites and have been scammed. Working as intended. There are no 'special' cases when it comes to scams - you are responsible for your account at all times. It is impossible to scam or be scammed if you are using the platform appropriately.

Thanks everyone for your help, I get the idea now. And sorry, no I'm not going to remove the links, scammers deserve to get named and shamed. Case closed I guess, up to Steam supports to do the rest.
Gin Apr 22, 2020 @ 9:00am
Did you even read the other comments which explained to you why posting the profile + asking us to report them is useless? If yes, why are you still so stubborn and don't remove the stuff?

Naming and shaming can generate false reports which can lead to alleged scammers getting away with their actions. I don't think scammers are too worried about storage or bot accounts being 'shamed' either.

Done, thank for the advises.

The account won't be banned. The items will continue rotating in the market. A shame that you fell for it.

As how the trade looked in your screenshot, steam will consider this trade as someone gifting items to a friend. You willingly interacted with another entity, believed its promises and sent items on a trade.

You are more likely to get banned than the gambling bot you were reporting. :d2rubick: With the evidences that you provided here, it is easier for us to report you. We had no interaction with the entity that you are naming and shaming in this discussion.
