Reason being, there are more people who have a higher Steam level than you compared to one year ago. Thus, your chances will drop. 6 years ago, with your Steam level being about 100, getting at least a booster pack per week would be no problem. But that is not the case now.
I predict that within 10 years, Steam levels of over 500 will be common place, so it would be harder to get a booster pack.
This. About 75% of the booster packs that I've ever received have been for a game that was given away free at some point, allowing for massive card farming, and making the badges really cheap.
The fact you are ELIGIBLE for Booster packs on a certain game is only the first step. The key part is that you go "in the pot" with ALL the other users who have that game and have earned all their cards for that game (being elgibile too).
And a Booster Pack is ONLY generated once someone else crafts a badge in that game. Then it generates and dishes it out to one of you lucky ones in that pool - simples, no?
You see how it works now? There's obvious reasons why you won't see a Booster Pack for ages, if ever, and other reasons why you might see more than one.
It all boils down to how popular the game is, how many people are still activae in fiddling with cards and badges, and so on.
For example, when this all started, I would get a Booster Pack of some game roughly every week - because obviously, everybody was keen to mess around with it across the board on all games.
Now, I've returned after a 5 year absence, at the end of March, and I saw I had one Booster Pack waiting to be opened and I've had nothing since, and it's not surprising why. Because now it's fragmented more - more games are out, less people will be actively engaged as it's not such a nerw thing, and certain games will largely be "dead" in activity, regardless of whether they're being played.
You really have to think about ALL these factors.
If you want to earn new cards to increase your pool for trades and so on, a great way to do it is to nose through the Humble Bundles, Indie Gala and so on - the beauty of these is they're dirt cheap games, and not only that bu tif YOU'RE buying them cheap and then playing them, MANY others will be doign too, so you have a greater chance of earning Boosters if you get to them straight away.
You see?
