Black Friday Sale versus End of Year Sale.
Well, I am going to be getting a $250 Steam gift card soon and I was wondering if it would be better to spend it during the Black Friday event or wait until the end of the year event. I want the biggest bang for my buck. I am looking for probably some FPS, maybe Battlefield or COD. (My love for FPS rekindled when I played DOOM).

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

The discounts for Autumn and Winter sale are traditionally the same. There have been *very few* exceptions, but from what we know it's just one "submit your discount" form for both.

for battlefield you are s.o.l. thats not on steam.

The summer/winter sales give you a card drop for every $10 spent.

You could use the extra card drops to level your profile more by crafting the sale badge, or if you don't care about that, sell the cards on community market to get some extra Steam Wallet credit.

$250 is a serious lot of money. Unless you're addicted to new releases I'd spread the money around.

For a start CS:GO is in your inventory UNPLAYED. If I was into FPS I might just give the most popular FPS on Steam a shot.

Why haven't you loaded Team Fortress 2 ? Awesome game and free.

But yeah - IMHO autumn and winter sale prices tend to be identical.

Pubs/Devs are still getting used to the static sales so they're still playing around with what price works best for them.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if there were better prices during the Fall sale just because it lasts for a much shorter period of time compared to the Winter and Summer sales.

As a new steam member, I was looking into the same thing over the weekend (I used to play PC games before kids, and things were quite different in '07!), and it does seem to be that all sales are both equal and different - equal in terms of loads of great deals, different in that different games will come up at different times, so If you have your heart set on a select few games, be prepared to ride out the sale watching all the timed events.

I think the most important thing is to make a list of games in advance that you want. It's very easy to see a game and think wow, that was good, and it's X% off... but will you play it? As the article says you can trade it later, but... it's probably better not to have spent to begin with.

i dont remember steam doing a black friday sale. so i would say that answers your question.

they are not black friday and cyber monday sales. they're called autumn sales that encompass both of those days.

What this guy says^^^^^^ Good site and good info.

I am also putting an overly large amount of money into my Steam account for the big sale that is coming around the corner soon. I have $70.86 already from selling cards and adding some wallet funds here and there. I figure I will toss another $50 on top of that in the coming days using my Steam Wallet. I was considering maybe getting the Steam Controller and the Steam Link. I also wanna get some new'ish games. The price will add up pretty quick I imagine even with the good deals on the games.

As BN BN said above, make a list before the sale! I prefer NEVER to just impulse buy a title. Even if it's 90% off original price. Just me though. I usually scroll through Steam and just browse a general area of what might interest me. After I see a title I might be interested in I head over to YouTube and check out some reviews and gameplay videos of the titles. Then I check the Steam forums of whichever game I am looking at to see what people are saying about it.

Good luck to you on your quest for good deals!:SBHorse:

I think I saw steam has added support for the PS4 controller to the beta, allowing it to use all the features of the official controller if that's something you'd be willing to wait for in a future update?

Personally, I'll have around $85 this sale if I don't want to spend any extra - we preordered two of those mini-NES things for Christmas, but decided to sell them on ebay when we saw the hype, so have a little extra cash for the holidays :)

The article lies
Even popular, best-selling, and newly released titles can see huge discounts, on the order of 75% to 90% off in some cases.
This. Never. Happens.

Would you mind elaborating for us n00bs? I've seen a lot conflicting articles, this was the most recent so I went with it... what's wrong?
Start_Running Nov 14, 2016 @ 4:28am
HNewly released, best selling titles. Never get 75% discounts. they top out at around 66% in rare cases. If it's a game that has been released in the last year and a popular seller. You one see more than a 33% discount.
Lostedge Nov 14, 2016 @ 7:03am
The 75% and 80% discounts were for old steam. The new steam is about 33% and 66% discounts after they got their monopoly and user base.

COD games really seldom go for a sale, unless you call 10% discount a one. Battlefield games are not even Steam ....
