Have I been rude by asking this?
Hello.

There is a game on sale on Steam that can also be played for free on the internet (I will keep the game identity hidden). I got curious about this and decided to ask on the game forum if it had something more, so I wrote the following post:

Title: "What does Steam version offers?"

Text: "They are selling a game that can be played for free on the internet, so what does this version offer more? Is there more content that the on-line one, or is it planned? Does it provide new game modes or a better gameplay of some sort? Etc...

It's not that $ 1,99 (or R$ 4,49 in my case) is a considerable sum, but I wish there was some good reason to pay for it. The confort of having the game in our libraries and support the devs for the sake of it don't seem enough."

However, I was confronted by one of the players who said I had been rude and arrogant with my post, and even tagged it as a "troll topic". The guy was quite of overreacting all in all, but still, this made me thinking.

So, was my question so abusive, or sounded like it, after all? I do care because I do not want to cause unintentional mayhem and misunderstandings at all. And I am not a native english speaker either, so perhaps I expressed myself in the wrong way.

Thanks for your time!

If that truly is how you asked the question then, no, you weren't rude.

But do bear in mind that sort of question gets asked on here a lot by snarky people who are asking it rhetorically - they KNOW the game in question is no different, and they're just being argumentative.

Again, if that was asked sincerely and honestly, then the other guy was a ♥♥♥♥ for jumping to conclusions, It happens.

But here's the thing - it's HIS problem, not yours. You can't fix stupid!

General rule of thumb on Steam Discussion forums: if you want honest, frank and mature discussion, stick to boards like these - The general STeam discussion topics. If you go to the game specific boards, they seem to a wild west of some of the more maturity and empathetically challenged.

Report, block and move on. Don't engage with such users.

Preciesly.

In doing so you're helping others too, as arseholes will likely have pissed off other people too, so by reporting them you're probably adding to their list of infractions, thus eventually making it a nicer place.

Don't worry, fellow brazilian, there was nothing rude in your post. Some people are just so arrogant and ignorant that they see insults and sarcasm on whatever they read that questions their beloved products. Do not pay those any mind, just ignore them and report if they're breaking any rules.

Couldn't agree more.

When you say free to play the game on the Internet, is the game free or are we talking about something else?

I hear this discussion regarding emulators, I've heard it in the Atari game forum, Neo Geo games, and others, like the Sega Genesis forums, no those games aren't free to download legally.

In the case of the game of this topic, yes, it is legally free. It can even be played on the developers site itself free of charge.

No not rude in speaking matter.

Reason why people support devs, even if the game is free is to support the devs, it's up to the individual if they want to support them, or not, everyone entitled to their opinions.

Now if the game is for sale, instead of being free, it's because that just how it is, and it's up to the dev.

Also there no reason to panic, nor be worry about saying the game name.

Now if the game in question not free, then talk about getting it free will cut short, but talking about game name, is not the problem at all, just so you're aware.

Orion Sandbox Enhanced.

The name makes it sound like there is something extra to get by buying it on Steam.

Yes, this all makes sense. I asked on that ocasion because I had never seen something like this and got curious about it.

I decided not to reveal the game name because I do not want people to have a bad impression of that game or of it's community because of a single disrespectful and overprotective person.

How did you found that out? I thought it would be better not to expose the game as it's team had no blame for what happened, but maybe there is no problem after all.

And you are right, the tittle made me think it was an improved version, like the "deluxe" or "HD" version of some free games (e.g. Cave Story, Eversion, etc...).

Everyone can check your post history, hahah.

I believe the phrase that got them triggered was "The confort of having the game in our libraries and support the devs for the sake of it don't seem enough.", because to some people that IS enough, including me. It doesn't justify the way he responded to you, but just be careful about it in the future.

Oh, I see. HAHA! My bad.

On the rest, I got it. Won't put these things up again. Many thanks!
