dont forget about vram cuz 4gb is the recomended for a game these day

then i guess it's up to me to get a new laptop or something soon :/
i mostly just find it annoying that i've been playing on my crap laptop fine but suddenly an update that uses unessary amounts of ram comes and ruins the fun
450 MB of ram is a lot for a launcher for games. Really too much.
Anyway, the new update eat more and more ram the more the chat is used. I myself see the memory usage go over the 1 GB in some situation. This will be even worse with the upcoming release of the new library, so be prepared.
Mine is about 220 MB of RAM. Running on the latest released client. Last update for it was
Feb 19.
If other parts of Steam are open, they take up more RAM too as Steam is not just a launcher but a web browser and chat as well. As with any browser, the more pages one has opened, the more RAM is going to be used. Same with the chat, the more you have open, the more RAM it will use.
OP:
Are you running the Beta client or the released client?
If running the Beta client, I suggest posting the issue in the hub for the Beta client so they can look into the issue.
You simply can't run Windows 8 or 10 on your machine with just 4gb ram. The good ol days of windows XP only using 400Mb RAM are long gone.
also i have tried to turn off everything and even tried to force the steam webhelper to shutdown with taskmanager and it comes right back up
it's the steamwebhelper.exe thing that takes up 200 MB-500MB
never had problem with this until the recent update which i find frustrating not being able to play most games now
This is part of the problem, since it should be a simple client and not a web browser. It's similar to use a V8 engine to power a blender. As for the chat, a chat program take very few resources if it's programmed properly and not using a web browser as render engine.
