Anyone else getting constant friends requests full of Chinese symbols?

It seems that on a daily basis I get at least one, sometimes more friends request and the name is entirely in Chinese. Anyone else having this? If not, why am I?

Yes people are getting them, it happens once in a while a lot more than other times.

It can be because you have a public inventory worth scamming or a nice Steam level and lots of friends to try and obtain your Steam account to scam others.

If none of those apply then they probably just want another small worthless Steam account to spread scam sites.

Is there any way to prevent it? Is it something Steam is working on?

Even if they try, it's still easily bypassed with just $5 for new accts. Unless you want Valve to collect every possible identification details and proof you are you and link you to your acct, it's basically impossible to stop it. Like how China sites require your id and such to even make an account. So it's a choice of deal with it or screw any sort of privacy.

Not yet. Maybe one day, there are some suggestion topics that have addressed this and could be a good feature addition.

Bots want to add you, so they can spam you with dodgy links. So randomly generated steam names, with weird characters, is a red flag.
