Can I continue using Vista in 2019?
I'm stuck using my old PC from 2008 which is still running Vista 32-bit. I can't upgrade to a newer version of Windows because of reasons.

All I want to play is Dota2 and maybe Assetto Corsa. Am I SOL or is there some loophole that will allow me to keep using Steam on this PC come 2019?

Thanks.

No. Windows Vista will not be supported from January 1.

Time to upgrade to a newer operating system, and, if necessary, buy a modern computer.

I do have a modern PC but can't use it because it's in another country. I've moved back home and am using the PC I grew up with. It looks like I can buy a legit Windows 7 for cheap so I'll look into that.

aal which country do you reside?
When you upgrade your computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7, first make sure you have a Vista service pack and use Windows 7's Upgrade Advisor, which tells you what software or gadgets won't run after you install Windows 7. Windows Vista usually fares the Upgrade Advisor's exam pretty well.

You can still use Vista but not with steam, unless the games you have can be played in offline mode.
Look on Ebay or Amazon for cheap refurbished Desktop.

I'm in Canada now. Just checked that tool out and looks like I can run Vista 32 bit. Gonna look into that.

All I play is Dota and Assetto Corsa the latter of which can be run in offline but obviously not Dota.
Thanks for the help!

You mean you have Vista 32 bit and can run windows 7 x32 bit. The upgrade path has to match the Vista you have> as in Vista x32 bit Home / prof + windows 7 x32 bit home /prof

Good luck :)

Most of the time, Windows 7 drivers will also work for Vista and visa versa. But be sure there are drivers for your system before you change the OS.

Vista worst OS ever. again use Ubunto if posible its free and less recource demanding.

I'd rather attach clamps to my nuts than using Vista 0_o

No, ME was far far worse. Vista worked fine if you could ignore most of the UAC prompts and get a few other things set up how you liked.

Stand corrected but was a compleat recource hog for one who did not know about UAC prompt that much or even worse being stuck at laptop as my father was.

Oh totally. Man when it first came out it was a slow dog for a lot of the "compatible" PCs. Talk about a mess.
ReBoot Nov 13, 2018 @ 6:55am
As for the topic, 7 runs on any computer Vista does, theres really no reason not to upgrade. Beware of the support end in 2020 though. Its IMHO better to upgrade to 10 (which will be supported indefinitely) and stick to that. Well, that or upgrade to 10 in 2020. Well, you could upgrade to 8, but that's going EOL in 2023, not mich better than 7's 2020.

1. Please list full system specs.

If you have trouble listing your specs, get CPU-Z for us, then run it, click validate button to the right bottom, and click the submit, your broswer will open, copy the whole link and paste it here in the discussion please.

2. Why not use the Windows 10 unlicense version?

3. XP, and Vista support will be dropped, that's all there is to it, if you can somehow get the client to function properly then good work, if not, then nothing can be done about it, either move to another supported OS, or go to another platform to play other games, or whatever.

At best you might be able to eek out more time going offline or disabling Steams ability to update itself but that would only last until the first breaking protocol change on Valve's end which could be day 1.

The safest option is to just upgrade to Windows 7 at least or 10. You would be surprised about how good those can be even on some older hardware.
