Most of them are AAA games so that means those people prob only own like 7 games and didnt have anything to really pick from xD
But why I supposed to vote for stuff i never seen in my life?! It's like baseball mutch judjed by the people who don't know the rules. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ absurd.
You missed the previous 3 Awards? Same thing.
I am not sure what you mean by flaw?
Nominations happen in the Autumn sale. The top 5 nominated in each category go to the voting for the award in the Winter sale.
If it is in the awards it was deemed to be the most popular option by more people than picked whatever other game you would have preferred.
Like every year most of my nominations don't get in (if you nominated a game it even let's you know you did) but I knew of good games in all the categories and can see why others picked them.
Game of the Year 2019:
Destiny 2? That game was released in 2017. It only migrated to Steam in 2019.
Best Multiplayer Game 2019:
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition? That's only a remaster. That game was released in 1999.
Best Visuals 2019:
Subnautica: Below Zero? That's an early access title, that game won't be officially released before 2020.
Sure, I see why these games are popular.
One went free to play after 2 years, another one has been good for 20 years, the last one copied its artdesign from its 2018 prequel.
But nominating these games isn't even only stupid, it's also incredibly unfair towards developers who actually released their new games this year.
At least we get a free badge, but none of the games winning an award will actually deserve it.
Discussions during autumn sales: "OMG Steam makes me nominate random junk I've never even played"
Discussions during winter sales: "OMG Steam makes me vote for random junk, whoever nominated all that random junk??"
...
Of course the system is flawed, but it's really everyone's own choice if they want to contribute to making it worse. Maybe move to the Suggestion board to discuss separate Indie Awards without badges and bs for nominating and voting? I'm in.
