If you get a paid game for free will it be permanent

Like i just got the half-life expansions and if i delete it will it be gone?

The Half-Life games are just temporarily free-to-play until the new game comes out. You don't get to keep it. You can uninstall it if you want, you won't "lose" it until the free period ends.

Other games have been given away to keep permanently, so that happens too.

Depends, there are 3 kinds of "free" on Steam.

"Free Weekend" = means you can play the game for the duration of the event, usually Thursdays to Sunday. After that you must pay if you want to continue playing.

"Free to Play" = Games that are completely free and never cost anything.

"Free to Keep" = Pay games that are free for a short amount of time, usually as a promotion.
Those you keep forever, even after the event is over and they cost money again.


The Half Life games usually cost money but Valve have set their status to "Free to play for 2 months".
So you can play them in these 2 months for free but after that they will cost money again and you dont keep them.

You can always remove unwanted licenses.

Go to your profile => Account details => View licenses and .... just remove what you don't want from there.
