Will Steam ever allow us to play a game without updating to latest patches?
When we buy a game on Steam, the companies force us to download patches for the games.

This was less of an issue in the past but these days with companies like Tencent buying out companies and forcing censorship it can lead to the products we buy being changed against our will and us having no say in the matter.

Will Steam ever allow us to continue to play the games we bought at the state they were when we bought them?

Games that have forced updates wont have rollback options. Some other titles may offer previous branches which can be selected via the betas tab in properties.

Steam already allows the option through use of the branch update system the people you need to talk to are the game developers that are choosing not to use it.

Ten cent is buying multiplayer games first and foremost and those are unplayable without the latest patches.

It's really disgusting how Tencent are doing this, they are buying up these western companies that we bought products from and they can change them after the fact to be "games as services" in who knows what way.

Steam really need to put some rules into place to stop them ruining products we already paid for.

It's not Valve's responsibility or rather, they don't have the legal power. OK, they COULD delist games when the owner changes, but that would have wide ramifications, blocking games bought legit by legit companies, I. E. THQ Nordic reviving Titan Quest/Red Faction or whoever bought the remains of Telltale.

Oh so your thread is actually about ignorant racism and not about patching got it

It has nothing to do with racism, it has to do with a company that is directly linked to their government and that uses its power to censor products we already paid for. Go call your cat racist for farting or something.

Congrats on basically confirming what I said. It’s amazing you literally have no idea what you’re taking about

Why would they? It's basically why Steam was build, so everyone gets to enjoy their games as intended - fully updated.

If you buy a product you buy it as you wanted it, if the company ruins it after the fact you have no way to stop them doing it with Steam because they won't let you start the game unless you update currently. As I said, this was less of an issue in the past but it's getting to be one now.

Thats from the companies desires. But a user for example could enjoy older bugs or glitches and so on and so forth. For example the elevator glitch in MW2 where you could run around in skyboxes or (more recently for me personally) some speedrunning strats in Hitman that had been patched out.

It's frustrating but Tecent can ultimately do what they want with their acquisitions. Just avoid the developer(s) in the future and only purchase from ones who aren't likely to sell themselves out.

I love how this guy is allowed to call me racist with no valid reason and Steam moderators will do nothing about it at all, guess he is someones friend.
