What's a Trove item?
I got a Trove item from the Cozy Cottage called Trove - Blade of the Celestial Empress. It says I can consume it but I don't even know what it'll do. it doesn't say in the description.

It's a Knick Knack. You can consume it for a bit of profile XP and a badge. (25 XP, diminishing the more you use).

Oh damn, that was my first guess. But I doubted that is still a thing.
The in-game items from some summer sale ago are literally unsellable and can't be turned into gems IIRC. I'd be pretty pissed to get such a thing again.
