Discord kills internet speeds
I was downloading Left 4 Dead 2 yesterday which is about 7.5gb. Whilst I had Discord open and running, the estimated time was, get this, 2 and a half days. When I closed Discord, it went down to about half an hour. Does anyone else experience something like this?

You're probably on servers where people are posting lots of pictures and videos, consuming your pretty slow internet to begin with.

My internet connection to my router comes up 2 floors through a pass through adapter so yeah, it's pretty slow to begin with.

When you say servers, do you mean discord servers or steam servers?

Sounds like your internet, which is not any kind of steam problem...

But usually, I can download 10gb games in about 30 mins

Are you using Discord at the same time?

Are all the conditions the same? This IS a heavy sale time. It might just have been Steam's download service which is garbage at the best of times, and utter trash fire during sales.

yup I was having problems for about 3 months and I didnt know why. I would get download speeds on steam in the range of 10 kbps to 350, why? who d f knows. I thought my internet provider was throttling me until just a few minutes ago when i exited discord my speed maxed out. Discord was the culprit so now Im searching the web to figure out what is the problem.

same problem here, I just discovered that it is linked to voice channel.
If I enter in voice chat, download in steam goes down from 5 M untill 100 K. If I exit from vocal chat it raise back to 5 M immediatly.
Anyone can explain why?

Because your router prefers any streaming operation before downloads. That's normal. Look up net shaping.

For me it's Steam that makes other things slow usually.

Of course. Discord is constantly scanning your entire computer because its nothing more than spyware designed and created by the CIA's venture capital company In-Q-Tel.

turn inline media off on chat and it won't use much internet usage.
