Why is Steam so expensive compared to console?
I could get the GOTY edition of Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas on console for cheaper than the GOTY Fallout 4 on Steam.

I think a nice point has been made.. The people seem to not give a care.. yet when someone comes in and cares.. they get jumped on and told one way or another that its the way it is.

If you want to use weasel words and have no actual facts to back that up then expect your opinion to be shredded.

Stuff you don’t like is not “greed”

“Greed” is a weasel word for not having a cogent option other than “I don’t like something”

I would still call it greed.. no matter what.

“Stuff I don’t like an am totally ignorant of” is not “greed

I still say it is greed.

Love your wording.. interesting.

Library databases require servers, people to run and maintain servers, buildings to house the servers. The Authenticator is actually free to use, and as for the cloud... well again Lots of servers there to store all those games yyou download...and then there's payiong for the bandwidth used by all of that.

5% operation fee is MORE then enough, just look how much they earned last decade kid...

use calculator kids

Note that calculator only accounts for STORAGE.

Note STORING data is cheap

ACCESSING IT is not. Need to push out a 1GB patch to DOTA2 or CSGO? Or the thousands of other games? Or the patching devs use internally and push to steam?

Exfiltration of data is expensive

So is maintaining giant data centers full of servers globally.

That's trhe way knowledge, education and wisodom. Old, incorrect and misinformed notions will be corrected with information that more accurately reflects reality. Reality can be a real buzz kill to the ignorant.

People talk avbout the 30% being greedy because they think rather comically, that the games would be cheaper. They wouldn't. $60 was settled on as the price for a new AAA release before steam even entered the picture. Publishers aren't raising their prices to compensate... note that Witcher costs the same on GoG as it does on Steam.

Same holds if you check the games on Origin and Uplay.

I would still call it greed.. no matter what.
The Parsimonious think everyone else is Greedy.

Yes.. sure.. if you say so.

I still wonder how when someone disagrees with the system.. all these people that supposidgly know more jump in and tweet their song..

I should be required to defend myself.. j

I call it how I see it..

PURE GREED.
;
They charge MORE than enough.. to post profits like they do.. SICK greedy profits.

But there will always be people to defend Valve till the end.. at least until that person is crossed.

I'll tell you .. about 90 percent of the 'facts' I've been fed my life.. have been lies.

So I'll take whatever paid media outlets voice with a grain of salt.. Valve has enough money to pay for whatever words and schemes that they want.

Doude... look at those pricing guides and ask yourself...;
how many gigs of data gets downloaded from steam servers everyday?

Thinking is a core skill. Master it.

How many games you donwload per month, maybe is time to be real with cloud gaming and set prices for product- game + transition fees - download costs.

So game can cost 15 bucks, and tranfer fee for year 5 bucks for average 40Gb game (how many times you downloaded for example - Call Of Duty BO2 or Skyrim within last 3 years??...)

u get it?

So basically..retail ain what you think. and the 30% isn't that high. Paypal takes a 10% +a fixed minimum per transaction they process. TYou talk to any credit card company and see what it takes to get the ability to process cards. It's not cheap, they take a percentage plus they charge a fixed monthly.
Just use elavon mate. They got a fixed fee.

Your cell-phone bill is a perversion of the technology, it's not how it actually works.

You don't spend bandwidth, you always have what you pay for or what you set up There is no cap. That said, it's still hella expensive even if you own your own servers.

Who was talking about cell-phones. CLoud services charge based per gb/month storage and additionally per gib/permonth downloaded, and again per gb/month uploaded.

On the low end it looks pretty cheap but again when you consider the download traffic that steam goes through in a single day....

You are charged for the bandwidth you use though. Most of these services will not necessarily cap you but they will charge you overage.

Do your reasearch before posting. Here's their small business pricing scheme:

2.65% & $0.19 per Card Swiped
3.5% & $0.19 per Key Entered
+
$10 Monthly Fee
+
$499.00 Ingenico iCT250 (the machine)

Enterprise level will run higher and trhe pricing is based on number of transactions processed in a given period.

You gotta love people giving "advise" about stuff they haven't a faintest clue about.

Here's a an advise:
Stop being lazy and find a job that makes you enough money to not care about it.

My problem is rather the attitude than the context.
People should care about stuff. But either they should take action - not buying games at full price for example - or voice their opinion in a sensible way.
Most people I see "caring" about prices are just whining that stuff is expensive and they can't get everything for free. Often while lashing out to companies with asine terminology as "you are greedy". While showing they are cheapskates themselves.

The problem with gaming industry is that mutual respect has long vanished from any kind of discussion.
Costumers insult and ♥♥♥♥♥ about companies and always complain and want, want, want ...
Companies think costumers are dead stupid and eat everything as presented.

... and sadly the later one has proven true more often than enough. So there is litlle reason to change. Which fuels the former one and people get on the the newest FOTD* ♥♥♥♥♥-train far too quickly.

*Flavour of the Day. Month is definitely too long of an attention span for the internet.

I don't see Fallout 76 or Call of Duty Black Ops 4 being cheaper even though they aren't sold on Steam? So how exactly does the end user benefit from a company not giving Valve 30% of the cut?

I highly doubt steam is paying for cloud services that charge by the GB. It is far more likely they pay for bandwidth directly. Using your own words "Do your research before posting."

I brought up cell-phones because they often charge by the Gb to put emphasis on your understanding of how things work.

I'll look into that, I may have been wrong there. Word of mouth experiences tend to be wrong.
