same to you, it is legal to sell to adults and all they need is confirmation in US law, they wouldnt be breaking us law if they just filter it out for accounts that arent adults

Yes, they would.

A site catering to 13+ year old can not legaly distribute such material.

That too can be solved by opening an external branch in a european country. But I assume it's a solution they don't want to resort to.

No, it won't as they are still a US based company.

They would have to open a completely different company, registered and based in another country for that. It could not be integrated into Steam in any way. Require it's own server and everything.

Basicaly using another service, so pointless as those places already exist.

why open an external branch when you can just restrict to the people that are legally allowed to see it?

Because if the branch is situated outside of the USA, it has to follow the law of the country it's in first and foremost, rather than the other way around.

Because you can't. That has been stated many times as well as the why.

Not that simple.

you don't seem to be getting it so I will try to explain it a bit further..

even if the Product is legal in Cambodia, Valve still has to follow US laws as they are a US company.. even if the product would be legal in Cambodia, Valve would still be unable to sell it if US law doesn't allow it to be sold..

same to you, it is legal to sell to adults and all they need is confirmation in US law, they wouldnt be breaking us law if they just filter it out for accounts that arent adults
they would actually, because there are laws heavily restricting selling Adult content and content aimed at minors within the same storefront (similar how in the 90s, if you got both Kid channels and "Adult stations" in your custom cable plan you were actually put on a "special list", not sure if thats still a thing in more recent years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was)..

the only way Valve wouldn't get in trouble for doing that would be if they made an entirely new storefront (different client, login info, etc) for the adult content..

because they can't.. even when selling a product to a person in Aisa or Europe, they STILL have to follow US law..

It is illegal in the EU as well to have a mix of content marketed towards children on the same website/client as porn.

i understand now, thank you. but could you link me to a document that confirms this?

True. But some content that is defined as pornography in the USA falls under erotic content in Europe. So it would open more options.

It wouldn't, as they still have to follow USA law even when selling in Europe.

You missed a part of the discussion. I mentioned the possibility of an external branch situated in a european country, in which case that branch would follow the law of the country it's in first and foremost.

I did not miss anything. The only way would be to completely disconnect it from Valve/Steam and that's not an external branche, but a seperate entity. What would be the point to do that?

Just so they can sell porn? I doubt the expenses would be worth it. If selling porn games was really all that profitable, Valve would have done what they have to to get in that market. Also it would be cheaper and be available for more people, for them just to have a new client and new website dedicated to porn only and have people create a new account for that then it would be for them to create a new branch and sell to less people.

Erotic content =/= porn. How many times does that need to be repeated? Bear in mind that European standards for erotic content differ from the US standards for the distinction between the two.

You know that fine line distiction doesn't change anything I said above. And hentai is still porn in the EU.

Oh, that I'm aware of, it's in the meaning of the word after all. It's my personal agenda to de-antagonize erotic (not pornographic) content and open people's minds towards it. About time the renaissance happened in the rest of the world, not just Europe. Most of the world is still 5 centuries behind.
