So is there a way I can hunt down a hacker?Or hire an ethical hacker?
i added this guy on steam for rocket league trading. He told me it was his 2nd account, he had his other stuff on the primary, so he sent me a fake steam link that looked legit. So i went there, it looked like a normal steam profile, when trying to add him the browser asked me to login and everything looked the same as in steam normally, even the authenticator code tab.
before i know it my account got stolen and all my rocket league stuff as well.
luckily i recovered my account by resetting my password and email.
BEWARE guys.
I know my stuff is gone now, this happened today.
I am aware that this was also partly my fault for being scammed so no need to mention this.
The only thing i wanna do now is prevent this person from doing such things again.
I have proof of this too, I will upload photos of this on my account too.

I just want somebody to hunt this hacker down.
I really don't want anybody to experience the same things i did.

I reported this to steam today too, let's see what they say.

*EDIT: don't report him, only i can report him which i already did.

Only you can report him, false reports will only make him look like the victim of harassment. Steam would see that I had no contact with him, invalidating any repor5 I make.

Just learn from this and be safer in the future.

mmmh okay i understand, is there a way to hunt him down though?
No. The best thing you can do is report his account which you did.

Important lesson here, if someone sends you a link to a Steam profile using Steam chat then it will open in the client.

Or did you open it using the ingame browser?

Instead of looking for vengeance for your own ignorance, learn from it.

What do you think steam will do in response, will they trace anyone down? are they allowed to?

Stalking / harassment is not advised, as they're not allowed on Steam.

Report the user & block them.

That is enough to ameliorate the issue that you're experiencing.

For you this is a very important day because you got scammed, but for Steam support, it is a normal Sunday, this happens all the time, people fall for this stuff daily.

Also, by posting this and asking people to report him, you are breaking the forum rules because naming and shaming is not allowed.

Still, it did open using chrome. that means that it's not a steam website.

Also the "hey please add this account" is a huge red flag, ask him to add you instead.

It's not as much anger what i have, it is more like i don't want them to keep doing this to anyone else, because i had a lot of high value stuff.

Yeah that's a shame, is there a way to at least work in this field to help steam with this, or is reporting just the only option?

posting links to scammer accounts does nothing. they are all throw away accounts, some are stolen accounts (would you like to recover your stolen account and have the community calling you a scammer?)

remove the links, they do nothing
as stated, report the profile and move on

Damn that's sad that no one will do anything against this, im aware this was my fault too.
So is phishing considered as illegal in views of steam? or is it legal because i put in my own account credentials at that moment?

Steam Support handles scam reports, not the forums, not other steam users.
other steam users getting involved will do more harm then good.
learn from your mistake and dont repeat it
