But; it should read:
If anyone sends you a link, don't click on it.
Don't click on email links.
When someone try to login to the account you would get an email, which they need the code to enter in to access the account, meaning they need to have access to the email already. If you have mobile authenticator, it will be really unlikely they will get your code, since they physically need the device in person.
Now if your friend shutoff Steamguard for whatever reason, he shouldn't be shock that this could happen, and won't get notified about it because it disable needing verification, because he wanted to take the risk of someone trying to gain access to the account, if they knew his information.
With Steamguard off you can't trade, or sell items from account, and with Steam guard on, there's a hold time for trading, and selling items, only way to speed things up is by using mobile authenticator, which need to be active on the account for over a week, and Steamguard must remain on as well.
I call this complete bullcrap.
Not possible, just from a friends request. There would have to be a lot more to it then that.
"Ijust clicked on that friend request and my account was stolen!!!!"
What really happened:
"Oh, someone wants to add me. Sure. What is this? I get free stuff if i click on that link he just send me?`Awesome! CLICK*"
