How come Valve haven't sued Apple over the Apple news Logo?
I mean, it's a blatant rip off of the dota 2 logo, it would be an open and shut case.

I can't even find hint of a statement by valve on it online, there is nothing.

Why?

Nothing is open and shut when the sued company involved has 243 billion to burn.

Trademark infringement requires that a reasonable person would confuse the two brands in question and/or assume they were related. No reasonable person would confuse a news service for a video game (or vice versa), or assume they were related in any substantive way. There's not case here.
Pretty much this. The design, colours , and context are all different. Trademarks have a very, very narrow range of application.
Just takea quick google for "similar logos" ... this happens so often. Do you now how many logos look similar to Beats by Dr Dre or Pinterest? Becuase they are basically just letters? Same with this stylized N.

Also this is from 2016 so any trademark claims would be forfeited by now.

I don't get why they did that. It's a N that looks like an X. And it's ugly. What an odd color choice.

The trend for a few years now is to make logos more simple and clearer. That adds the benefit of being easily to recoginze. Even in thinks not associated with your brand. Remember the Obama campaign logo that got compared to Pepsi? Now everyone who heard of that will think "Pepsi" instead of "Yes we can". Or think about how the Golden Arches work for McDonald's compared to Whitecastle or Wendy's.

Now if you look for news, you look for the ugly N instead a newspaper or the empty cabinet of ye olde time. Easy to find. Less chance another app will come up with something similar.
Here's what he's talking about if anyone isn't sure. Apple's is clearly the letter N and Dota's is a map.

Google would have a better case.

While the actual clause states "misinterpret" which is exactly what the OP did, yeah this still holds true. Specifically because the nature of the two logos are in a completely different context and show very clear differences such as color, the ragged edges on the dota logo, and their purpose of use/representation. It would be like apple sueing and apple juice company for using a red apple as their logo.
