Steam sale is on but the discounts could be better TBH...

Used to be sales with 75% off, then 65%, now most of the games I have on my wishlist are between 15%-30%. Looks like it's going to be a slim haul (or none) this summer sale..
And those at 30% are older games rebranded as Game of The Year or something similar to jack up the base price.. OR as I like to call it, the sucker deal. No thanks!

I just bought Crypt of the Necrodancer at 80% and the Infinity Collection (BG, Planescape, Icewind Dale) at 75%. Also looking at Tyranny (66%), Civ 5 (75%) or Civ 6 (66%), Cities Skyline (75%) and EU 4 (75%).

Though I look mostly to what I actually pay. But I'm seeing enough 66%+ discounts on my wishlist.

I'm gonna bet a lot of people say it sucks just because the specific game that they want doesn't have much discount.

Happens every sale. They complain to Steam, but the developers/distributors set the prices. We point this out every sale. Ah well.

Humble Store is currently selling Lords of the Fallen GOTY at 84% off, so I grabbed it for just £3.83. The standard version didn't want to work for me, but this one seems to be alright with no issues.

They also have Shadowrun Returns Deluxe for free right now.

Publishers don't pull out the sales numbers from their behind. There are actually metrics involved and interpreted by someone who gets quite a lot of money.
So they already do what you suggest.

You're numbers on the other hand ... Vampyre for 75% off? Why not just give it out for free already. Jeez, everyone interested in this months releases has already played them anyway.

Valve has nothing to do with those games.

Technically not true since Valve gets a cut on those games being sold. For all we know, it's possible Valve increased their cuts which is why we do not see the deep discounts we've been seing years ago. It's speculation of course.

I'm more than happy with this sale. I got the new 60 dollar LOTR game for 20 bucks, and spent another 15 bucks on stuff that was on my wishlist. For 35 bucks I got 6 games that I've been wanting. Maybe it's not as good as sales used to be, but I'm still satisfied.

The sales might be less because they don't make good PC games anymore. I think the last genuinely good PC game I bought at release was SC2 Legacy of the Void (pretty much everything by blizzard is a winner). I have fallout 4 haven't palyed it yet didn't buy it at release. I have Titanfall 2 played some of it didn't buy it at realse but seems like a winner. Besides that what is there? The lack of good new games makes old games more valuable. Skyrim re-released at 5x the price of the original on steam? Games like Planescape Torment re-released at higher price. Diablo 3 was revalued. This makes sense since its value relative to what is in the market is greater than what it was because what is in the market is DLC filching buisness models. Where is Elder Scrolls 6? Who wouldn't pay full price upfront for it? I think this answers the question regarding why sales aren't so great.

Elder Scrolls 6 has been announced, it'll just take a while to be done now.

Vampyr has just been released, why would they discount it at 75%?

And the Assassin's Creed games have a good discount with 66%, the older ones are only € 3,39, which is a steal for the Ezio games (2 and Brotherhood are my favourite).
