I guess we were so badly wrong about Valve

So it seems I along with many many many people were wrong. "Why do we need a competitor? Steam is innovating, isn't ran by money hungry stock holders, etc." Well sadly this is one of the few times I actually would love a real Steam competitor to jump ship to.

Now while I don't think the new god awful UI was added out of malice I can say that in an era where many developers are listening to their community Valve as a whole is essentially in their own bubble 100% ignoring their customers doing what they please.
We're in this situation because Valve does not have to listen to us period. They have no real competitors so they don't have to worry about us leaving.

I'd say the UI is really just mostly what broke the camels back in this case. This has essentially been the golden example. They ignored the Beta testers requesting basic features such as games belonging to different libraries being in a separate tab as they use to, they ignored my (rather extreme but where I believe all UI's should go) request to instead focus on making a highly customizable UI, and most recently and importantly they haven't even addressed the fact that as far as I can tell almost no one wants adware, bloatware, etc baked into their games launcher when said games launcher has always been touted as being very light and acceptable DRM.
As for other misc things there have been many bad TF2 updates that have caused people to quit (including myself), no more games coming out of Valve beyond some now dead game I can't remember, no real Steam innovations beyond a Friends list redesign (that I semi-like but think it still needs some work), no change in their gambling sims, and probably a lot more.


So where do we go from here? Who knows. Personally i'll just be boycotting Valve/Steam as a whole and use the Mini Client until they at least show some signs of listening to the community. As for what you should do that's up to you. If you know how i'd say convincing someone at Valve that starting a PR department is a good idea is a good start.
Also if talking about Valve isn't allowed on the Steam Discussion subforum please move this to the correct location. I put a decent bit of effort into typing this. I'll be backing this up just in case because I fully expect it to be deleted.

That is precisely it. I am not going to inconvenience myself or leave money on the table by not using games I paid for, but I am also not going to give any more business to a company which has shown itself unresponsive to our concerns.

plus I am planning to re-buy some of my faves on GOG or transfer those to GOG when possible so that only crap I will never play again remain on my steam account at that point I will just delete the account.

Yup I hated having all those other launchers, but after this? I can't wait to download them all and start buying games on them.. just to spite STEAM, just to shrink their market share and expand their competitors. Everyone who hates how they're being treated by STEAM with this forced terrible UI and dictatorship type behavior in the forums (the purging of their noisy dissenters) should do the same.

Edit: meanwhile another freemod said the same thing effectively, that Valve didn't need to worry because they have so many other customers. When I complained I was told "I was disrupting the conversation and to remember that for the future."

I'm being tempted by a -40% sale on a new version of game which got me a -60% coupon for owning the previous version. The coupon expires on November 30 (and the sale on December 3).

So Valve has until then to re-implement List View, make an option for disabling What's New, and generally speed up their client (with regards to lauching and scrolling and all that). Or else I'm not buying it.

I am also confident they are reading all the feedback now and will make changes based on it, that's kinda how it works. It beats the alternative of wasting time building something that nobody uses.

we have bunch of games updates cooming every day , what so hard to release new UI as addon that u can "install" from the store if u like it.
as well as whole pile of poop that was added over years, that i cant ever remember to ask for.
now if u open task manager u start to wonder what the hell this whole bunch of processes are doing , by just having your pc on stand by mode.

The Store experience has become a bloated, convoluted mess to the point where just trying to browse the catalog is actively unpleasant, and I avoid it more and more. I mean, it's *practically* a boycott in-effect, now that I think of it, because I just can't stand to shop here.

Too much Daddy-Knows-Best, not *nearly* enough in the way of options. NO, Steam, I don't care about "community picks." NO, Steam, I don't care about who's streaming. Streaming is for toilets. NO, Steam, get that lolfarming "curator" crap out of my face, please. There's too much junk and clutter, and no reasonable options for opting out of it.

Basically, if you want an uncluttered shopping experience, you've got to use third party websites. Seriously, I browse the Humble Store now....when I'm just shopping for games on Steam. It's pretty sad.

agree steam just became the most bloated, annoying client around, it started with the store, now the whole library/client.

Even though for the past few years steam has been going downhill, it was only in the last year (and i include the website not just client) where they became on par with the others. And this ui update easily puts them in the top row.

There were other platforms for third party platforms for getting games and no drms. they all got forced out long time ago, and what is or raised out them is publisher/developer owned. There is no customer services any more.

All this over the UI overhaul? (atleast most of your concern revolves around it) I honestly don't see an issue with it, and bugs tend to arise with new patches, it's just not easy to script 100 percent accurate, hundreds of pages coding, I appreciate with what they are doing.

The old library wasn't broke, worked just fine and wasn't bloated with crap. Absolutely nothing is good about the new library. I shouldn't have to learn how to use my damn library. It's an asinine design, I don't care about the crap update news. Why can't it just stay on the last game played like it used to?
