Fix for new laggy UI
In the Steam Settings under INTERFACE.

DISABLE the following settings (uncheck them):

- Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views (requires restart)

If you are still having problems, disable these as well:

- Enable smooth scrolling in web views (requires restart)
- Enable DirectWrite for improved font smoothing and kerning

Then close restart your Steam client.

Disabling those 3 check boxes and restarting the UI has drastically improved my interface, especially switching tabs. I no longer get the black screen lag where I have to mouse my mouse over the UI to show the collections.

I know it's confusing with me telling you to disable the settings, when the settings all start with the word "Enable".

A huge thank you! My client is starting much faster now also. You rock! :horns:

That worked, thanks! Still kinda laggy, but much better than it was before, and actually paints the library when switching from other views now!

So two acceleration options actually make things worse? Nice.

I was just poking around and turning them off. The GPU one made the difference, I have switched the other two back on.

Thanks very much. Got rid of the black screen/mouse-over lag. And also seems to have reduced my RAM usage.

I switched DirectWrite back on since it makes the text looks better, but I kept smooth scrolling off since I prefer scrolling to be responsive instead of feeling like there's input lag. Same reason I disable mouse smoothing and vsync in games.

Yes I think that's ok to turn on again.

Steam is basically a browser page now, everything is connected to the browser including the game list, the resource usage is pathetic.

If u guys want to save ur resources add this to Steams shortcut path

-console -no browser

Keep in mins that if u do this EVERYTHING on the main page will be disabled including the game list so ull have to use previous games to play one.

To make it easier have 1 modified steam shortcut and one normal 1 so u can easily switch between them

The -nobrowser comand will render some of Steam's web functions dead.

If users tried this and then whine that their overlay and other stuff doesn't work, now they'll know why.

It's better to just stick to the current UI, rather than give yourself inconvenience that really isn't necessary at all.

Ik, read my edit.
Steam is basically just a browser client now, even the games list is noq tied to it.

Thats why i recommended having 2 shortcuts, 1 modified 1 normal
-

I dont have high usage when using the commands so ill just deal with it until i need the normal 1 for something

That's probably one of the symptoms of using that same parameter, yeah.

It's based CEF, so killing it may cause some issues.
