CS:GO - 8GB vs 16GB RAM
So I've just upgraded my pc from 8GB to 16GB RAM.

My specs:

I7 8700 (HT disabled=more fps)
GTX1060 6GB
16GB 2400MHz
256GB SSD

I was wondering if that upgrade will make a difference in fps, wasn't expecting much because of many articles I read about this topic. But holy hell. It makes a huge difference when there is a lot of action (smokes around, molotovs, spamming throught smokes). With 8gb ram, my fps would drop even as low as 160fps, after the upgrade it never drops under 200. Never. On Aimbotz I had 300 fps before and 250 while spraying, now 400fps and around 300 while spraying.

From my experience, that upgrade was hella worth it. Peace

only 2400mhz? were you on a budget or why you cheap out if you buying 16GB RAM? 32GB is the standard soon, so why not buy higher mhz?

Unless you have a crazy monitor you're just burning electricity for no benefit.

Also ram won't greatly boost fps anyway.
If you have now two ram bars in the right slot, its maybe dual channel benefit. Not more ram.

32gb ram wont be standard any time soon.

Absolutely not
Even 8GB can handle most of the modern games. 32GB wont be "standard" for the the next few years. 16GB just became standard. Plus after 2000MHz RAM speeds wont make that much of a difference in FPS. Its all about the timings. I even underclocked my RAM to get better FPS there because of better timings

I bought this pc used and since the CPU doesn´t have K, he went with a cheap motherboard which supports up to 2400Mhz.

I have 144Hz so yeah, the difference between 250fps and 160fps is really noticeable while spraying, the extra 8gb helped to make the gap smaller.

You are talking about max 3€ difference in electricity bill per year, I think all of us could live with that :)

Yep that´s what I thought so too. Do you think that it will help my friend to upgrade to 16gb aswell? Now he has 2x4gb so would be 4x4..
If no game wants 16gb, no need to upgrade 2 slots ram. But if the price is right it could be good for the future. While the board maybe only supports dual channel. 4 slots would just increase ram amount.

Well now all of RAM are on a 50% sale in my country, bought this one 8gb stick for around 34€ brand new including shipping, I tink it is a good deal. :)
Yes. Let your friend read if its better to have 4 or 3 of different size, while the two with same size are in dual channel slots.

why hyper-threading is disabled for more fps? Should not HT give you more performance when enabled?

The game is more CPU based than anything anyways.

Watch this video from 3kliksphilip, explains it perdectly.

https://youtu.be/fj9cuHuTNVU

I even did the fps benchmark in cs myself. With HT on I had like 10 fps less. And I don't know if it was a placebo, but with HT on I felt like there is a little bit of input lag. Also you shouldn't use any launch options like - high - threads etc. It really messes up the balance.
