Change.org: My petition for Valve to discontinue 32-bit software and hardware support & development
Since Valve has been silent on many macOS gaming articles documenting every single 32-bit game for the macOS market (including their own macOS ports of Source Engine and GoldSrc Engine games) getting dropped support with the upcoming release of macOS Catalina in October this year, I wanted to start a petition on change.org for users to support.

https://www.change.org/p/valve-valve-discontinue-development-of-32-bit-version-of-steam-go-exclusive-to-64-bit

This discussion is not a flame war against Valve, their employees or any Steam users. I am against boycotting or filing complains to Valve and respects their products, their Steam store and it's community.

OP, your suggestion is bizzare. Old games won't get upgraded to 64 bit, so why should you or anyone else feel authorized to try to stop me from playing classic games I've bought and paid?

And I'm quite happy to use Windows 7, which I've bought and paid for, so I don't receive annual invoices from Microsoft. Haven't done so for years, it feels great. Just use very high security settings and you'll be fine.

Let others that want to pay annual fees to Microsoft just to have their data harvested so it can be sold off to advertisement companies have a fun time with Windows 10.

But thanks for the warning against purchases from Apple.

You do realize how old gold source is right? Will you be paying Valve to rework the whole game engine just for 64bit you must have deep pockets right? You do realize source is old right? FYI CSGO is not using source 2, only Dota 2, artifact, and underlords are using source 2.

There's no reason to drop 32bit as it's supported in 64bit of Windows they haven't stated, nor have they suggested, or anything related to dropping 32but support.

FYI Ubuntu changed their mind of dropping 32bit, look it up, also again there no reason to drop 32bit version on Windows, also people will ditch Ubuntu for something better as it's just one of the many Linux distro's.

The thing is, I kinda understand the OP. Purism in software often isn't as much a principle thing as its measurably useful. Of course, practicability kicks in the moment we're not living in a perfect world which we, rather obviously, indeed don't.
Disregarding practicability I, speaking as a professional software developer, would totally agree with the OP on simplifying the software stack being a huge boon. But since that sentence starts with "disregarding practicability", its quite obviously BS to follow the idea. Again, speaking as software developer, I get paid for customers being able to use the software, not for great architecture (which customers don't care about at best and hate at worst when said pure architecture makes practical things difficult).

Well, that's just a shame, since the only major 32-bit PCs you see these days arecjust a bunch of custom builds made by various forum users and YouTubers, while old stock (and out of print) PCs often are scene in various thrift stores across various countries.

I also don't think HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, or any of the other common PC manufacturers are making 32-bit PCs anymore (North America only).

There's heaps of 32 bit PCs, new ones sold as of now. Low-end systems are better served with 32 bit. Not a few people also have old PCs still around because they're still good. You're rather ignorant. Again, you don't get anything from what you're asking for, other people get a loss. You are officially evil.

There are many 32 bit programs that many people use and that are on Steam as well, that will never get converted to 64 bit.

Valve only drops support for something if they have no choice, such as XP and Vista. I don't see 32 bit support going away any time soon.

Besides, Valve has no say in how developers make their games and the only reason to go 64 bit is if you need to access more memory then 4GB and any game client shouldn't be even close to that.

Going by the Steam Stats, 1.2% of the users use 32 bit Windows 7 and 10. With 15 million+ active users daily, that is a lot of users still using 32 bit.

Well I guess this petition is just a failure. There is just no way Intel, AMD & Nvidia are going to actively make any transition to 64-bit any time soon. I just put this to a close.

All of them already support 64 bit. They just won't drop 32 bit support.

Weird, my Intel-based computer can run 64-bit-only operating systems just fine. I may have a machine from the future, where Intel actively made that transition.

What you should be doing instead of trying to force a dozen companies to take away options because one decided they didn't want it anymore is encourage that one to not kill the option for no reason beyond "new is all you need".

Your apple can only run 64 bit. You do not need to worry. I think it is time to say thanks to apple for you.

Has Change.org ever done ANYTHING? I remember it being super hyped, but can't remember it ever having any change.
A lot of stuff. But not useless garbage like this of course.
