What happened to the invite to game option??

It's incredibly useful way to let people know youre in a game quickly and its missing now.

Had issues with this ever since they updated the friend network, in some games people can join my games through that option but I am never able to invite them. In other games the option never appears anymore it's very temperamental.

Thats because some games arent through steamworks still it worked as a perfect way to invite people to join a game without a message. The message adds obligation to respond whereas the invite could be ignored with no problem.

Its easy to get a bunch of people together with it and it allows you to invite people who were offline, prompted invites dont work for invisible players.

My extra right click options (join game, launch game, view game info) has been missing for weeks now. I'm not using any steam betas.
I have to go to the library page to do any of this stuff.

i still have those but instead of invite to game i have "invite to watch" and "invite to party" that one of which does absolutely nothing. The person doesnt receive any kind of notification at all.

Is your game details private? Gotta be at least friends-only.

In a game, open your profile in overlay, right click the green button, and click the second copy this link address.
Paste that in chat, and the friend has to insert that in the overlay browser.

You read it wrong, thats steam group invites to random people. Group invites have always been sent to people as a way of trolling, you'd have a group named "lol u lost get mad scrub" as a way of sending a message unsolicited. We're talking about the "invite to game" option.
