Why do negative reviews get buried? What's the purpose of "helpful" or "funny?"
I reviewed a game which I thought wasn't very good. The initial reviews were all positive, but they were a bit suspicious. For example, some of them only had one review ever, and it was for this game. Kind of strange.

At one point, there were 18 positive reviews and only my negative review. The game had pre-release reviews which I don't recall seeing before, as well as a lot of YouTube let's plays. Since the games been out for a day or so, the game has received about half negative/half positive reviews.

I went in depth about my review, pointing out why I thought the game wasn't very good. Since yesterday, the review was voted helpful about 16 times (about 10 more than any other review) and funny 28 times which is far more than any other review.

Yet, when you go to the review page, the review is completely buried. It comes up last if you search all reviews.

Is this Steam? Is this the developer doing something, I know they can flag a review as off topic and perhaps that buries it?

Just curious if anyone knows.

besides posting 10+ more reviews after that, did you do something else? like downvoting other reviews?

I did not.

I realized that the last few games I'd reviewed were all negative, and went through my library and made sure I reviewed all the games I liked. I have quite a few games,so I found a few I really like that I hadn't reviewed yet.
k, just wanted to clarify that this is something the system is allergic to. you spamvote, your votes and your own stuff become worthless.

then it is just your 10 minutes of playtime.

Reviews rotate. This is independent from how "useful" or "funny" their rating is.

This fights review communities and people with a lot of friends that would produce reviews that allways get a lot of upvotes and make it impossible for someone without a big community behind them or a lot of Steam friends to get their review seen ever.

Complains that a review is not at the position the reviewer thinks it should be are common because of this. Steam should communicate better how this works.
Although that is from 2016, Valve recently addressed the review bombing issue, which may be possible that his reviews were caught in that algorithm and thus may be hidden.

From what I've seen here, likely for good reason.

Don't forget that with negative votes on reviews being invisible but still changing the ranking reviews that decide to just attack the playerbase like this very easily end up down the list because of those too.

I must say I always vote ones like the ops down even if I find the irony of people making such toxic reviews to try and claim everyone else is ruining the game by being toxic amusing.

Heh, I was trying to get named in one of his rule breaking, name and shaming reviews.

Still have a few pages of his to down vote though, lol.
Where do people review the Steam community? Pretty sure we'll be named when OP makes his review there.
