Trade between friends
So is it impossible to trade with friends (even after a year) if they don't have a smart phone? Why do I need auth to trade between me and someone on my friend's list? I KNOW the person.

This security stuff is starting to get out of hand. I can't trade to my friends because they can't "confirm" it mostly because they do not have a smart phone. Not everyone needs a smart phone.

Starting to get annoyed with the auth. crap because of this, logging in I can understand it's nice to those who want to use it (if they're THAT worried of being 'hacked' or just the average joe that just asks to be hacked i.e websites and all, malware games etc - people who don't think about it at first). But this sort of punishment is really pushing the bar.

Almost getting to the point of removing the auth.

Just my $.02

Because Valve makes money on the spyware dumped in your phone and that money goes towards maintining Gabe Newell's 7.5 M/day caloric intake of donuts and KFC.

It's a security feature and you can trade with people even if they are not your friends.

You do not need the phone to trade with them but it does make it happen faster if you do and even then you do not need a phone to do it as it's available with a pc and emulator.

If your friends are telling you it is impossible for them to trade with you, the problem isn't an authenticator, the problem is a trade ban.

Under normal circumstances, it is very possible to trade with friends without the autnenticator. And if you've been friends for more than a year then the hold time drops quite a bit, down to 1 day.

@Chompman nope it required be to 'confirm' my trade after I hit trade through the PC on the phone. Since my friend does not have a phone it was prompting him to confirm on his phone which he does not have so the trade is still 'pending'.

I believe the trade will stay pending for 15 days then the trade will be successful. I suggest your friend use WinAuth which has the Steam mobile app but without the need of a smartphone.

If you have no phone number linked it will not ask for confirmation on the phone - it will ask for confirmation via email however. It sounds like he linked a number and forgot or someone else linked it on his account. What does it say on the account page under 'ACCOUNT SECURITY' https://store.steampowered.com/account/

Trades would be held for 1 day if you have been friends for a year or more.

it's says awaiting for confirmation on his end but he does not have a smart and never set up it on a cell phone ever.

This is why this crap needs to go away, there should be no 'security' thing to trade between friends list. I can understand throughout the market place with strangers but this is ridicuious and steam goods are non-monetary you can't trade them for actual real cash they goto the steam wallet which is used to purchase goods throughout steam. A simple trade should not be such a hassle. I've heard of winauth it's an emulated program which 'acts' like the steam app but the actual thing. He's not going to use that.

I also looked the trade isn't pending anymore and the trade never happened.
