Valve recently added DS4 (Dual Shock 4) support into the client, just as they have for the Steam controller, so a program like DS4W shouldn't be needed. It will allow you to use the PS4 controller in games ran through the Steam Client. Doesn't matter if it is a standard Bluetooth, wired (for the new DS4) or the official Playstation adapter.
Run Steam in Big Picture. There are four icons in the upper right corner, you want options. It is the third one from the right.
On the left is a section for Controller. Click on controller settings. There are three options, the last one is for PS4 controller support.
Only if it support x-input. If it doesn't then the game has to support direct-input.
I think the plan is to look into support for more controllers then the the Steam and DS4, but the DS4 was already partly working since it used similar input to the Steam Controller, so they just added full support.
