Only the status of running is important. How you do it, is not important.
Steam recognizes up to around ~30 games at once (therefore max of 10k hours in 2 weeks).

Sam is an achievement manager to unlock achievements not hours lol
A few people (really just a few) excessively farm hours "because they can". Others accidently gain a lot of hours while farming their games for cards.
And then there's cheaters and scammers of course, who think they look more legit when they got 5000 hours in "whatever game", instead of their actual 50 (if even).
