Slow download speeds, is this normal?

I just moved into a new apartment and got the Comcast performance internet. My download speed for Steam games is only 1.5 MB/s. Is this normal and will it be faster if I plug in an ethernet instead of using wireless internet?

What are the speeds comcast claims you get with their "Performance Internet". i thought that was their lower tier and cheaper package... but i don't remember what the speeds are suppose to be.

Basically depending on what actual speeds you're paying Comcast for.. that download speed from Steam might be totally normal.

If you can pause your download and do a "soft reset" of the router (login but don't change any settings just click save). I can't guarantee it will fix your problem but I find it often does from my experience.

Unfortunately for you if you are only paying for 10 Mbps (megaBITS per second) then getting a download speed from Steam of 1.5 MBs (megaBYTES per second) is exactly what you're paying Comcast for. Actually it's a little better.

10 Mbps (megaBITS per second) is the same as 1.25 MBs (megaBYTES per second).

So Comcast is giving you slightly better download speed then you are paying for.. and Steam is downloading as FAST as the bandwidth you're paying for.

Your problem is you need to pay Comcast (or some other ISP) more so you can have greater speed. The issue is not with Steam.

I used this same internet in another apartment before moving here and was sure that it was way faster than 1.5 MBs, although I was plugged into modem with Ethernet instead of using wireless. Maybe using an Ethernet cord boosts download speeds?

Wireless is less stable and slower

So you will be better connected with cable
