What's your opinion on the "Visual Novels" on Steam?
I would discuss this on the discussion forums of one of the individual "games", but the weaboos do nothing but defend their precious garbage anyway.

Let me start by saying, from what I have seen these VN's have gotten progressively worse as they go along. I don't own any as I'm not into them (and porn is free, I'd rather go watch it than buy it on Steam.) One of my friend's was talking about one over a year ago, and explained how it had loads of choices, multiple endings, etc. That didn't seem that bad. One of the newest ones to hit Steam is called "Happy Campers". This has got to be one of the the biggest money grab attempts I've ever seen on Steam. It's not even remotely Japanese as far as I can tell. It's made by one guy. It might be, who knows. But I don't believe that the people playing it are. This "story" has also got to be the worst I've ever heard of, read reviews and read the forums. It's pretty much just panty shots and big boobs galore.

I actually did post in their forums a couple times, having "heated discussions" with people, but the developer (if you can call him that) removed most of my comments, and has been banning critics left and right.

I really want to know... What is the ACTUAL point of buying this? The weaboos will say for the story, or to support the creator, but that's utter BS... An early age children's book has more story than some of these.

So what is your guys' opinion on these? The first few I've seen didn't look all that bad... But now almost every one of them has a link to an 18+ patch pinned right on their forum, proving my point further that these are not for story. I don't believe porn belongs on Steam, but hey, that's me.

Visual Novels aren't neccessarily Japanese; there are some good Visual Novels as well; for instance, FATE and Steins;Gate. Quit tagging everything the same.

If you had read at least half of what I had said, I was mainly talking about "Happy Campers".
I'm not tagging everything the same. This is a discussion to see what others think, no need to get pissy so fast.
I feel like very few people are going to acknowledge an opinion about game taste from someone advertising CSGO gambling sites on their username. But you do you.

You were talking about Visual Novels, then suddenly started talking about some random thing no one heard anything about.

You also said that Visual Novels are basically paid porn, then ranted on it.

It might be the same situation with people who obsess over this kind of stuff and have anime avatars. Also I should mention that's my site, not anyone elses. But thanks.

From what i've seen and experienced, they are crap (cheesy story, cheesy characters, badly drawn in that horrible ♥♥♥ style) but i guess virgin millennials who never will have sex need them so they can talk about "waifus" and have something to jerk off too.

Hey, not only an opinion I agree with, but something actually relevant to what I'm talking about.

There is a lot of them on Steam, and most are quite bad by the looks of things.

I hate visual novels. So I ignore them when I shop Steam. Just like I hate strategy games and ignore those, too. Other Steam users like them so I understand/accept the store is going to carry them. I'm glad there are people, including quite a few on my friends list, who are able to get the entertainment products they enjoy, just like I'm able to do, on Steam.

Understandable. With the ones that are clearly just fan service I'm having trouble seeing why people would buy them outside of arousal purposes. I don't see any point in purchasing that, but it's not for me to decide what people spend their money on.

It's always great to see a "discussion" started with an open mind. And the TC not wanting an echo chamber ...

... sadly that doesn't seem to be the case here.

There are good and bad VNs on Steam. Mind blowing, right? Just like there are good and bad examples of western FPS on Steam. Or horror games. Or literally any other genre.

If you want to rant about one specific game, then do so on the forums until you get perma banned there. If you want an open minded discussion, the very first post already gave you examples of good VNs that are very different to your limited experience.

No one has yet given me a reason to buy the ones that are specifically fan service based. Maybe I hadn't specified enough. I'm not ranting about that VN on their forum because the dev is just removing posts and threads with criticism, so why would I do that?

Why do you expect people to give you a reason to buy them? You not wanting particular products isn't a problem.

I don't expect it. Posting a reply here is optional. Of course it isn't a problem, it's my opinion.

Visual nbovels , much like regular novels, are hit or miss for most people. They are a big thing in Asiann countries though where their writing system allows them to condense a large amount of information into relatively few characters.

This is more or less the same quirk that created the JRPG.

Given your tone here "criticism" might be stretching it. And why should anyone give you a reason to buy something you don't want? You don't have to buy every game on Steam.
I for one cannot understand how people still buy CS:GO. It's cheater infested, has a highly toxic community, has a despicable money making scheme which is one of the reasons for scamming and all the restrictions users have to go through ... and on top of that it's a bloody multiplayer shooter. Boooring.
