Price drops day after purchasing
Think I've finally reached my triggered and salt limits with steam and how they deal with refunds and sales. I purchased a game that was on their featured/recommended bar that i had not seen before, and turned out to be a good game. The next day (less than 24hrs from purchase) they dropped the price by 50%. Now I like the game and want to keep it, but because I actually played it they refuse to refund the game so I can have it at the sales price.

Now I know sales are sales, and you can't just request this for any game you own whenever it goes on sale. Business here (canada) have a one week return policy which if your item goes on sale within a week of purchase you can bring your receipt in and get the difference back.

Less than 24hrs, and they refuse after the amount of money that I have spent on steam and this is apparently too much for them to handle.

I will now be looking for other avenues to obtain games, and if thats not possible, I will no longer pay a full value for a game, as more than likely they will just kick me in the a** the within a day or two.

If steam wants to have satisfied customers, they need to look at their policies, and perhaps figure out pissing off their customers isn't good business.

Most stores will usually honor this kind of thing. Especially if they didn't notify of upcoming sales. Steam is different, this is all digital, and also Gabe needs to fill his war-chests for the pending appacalypse.

Yes they did. And they do.
Provided you meet the 2 hour rule.

I also seem to remember them talking about a 'case by case basis'

Which obviously does not apply with the 2 hour rule you/valve are throwing around.

Actually it does. Case-by-Case does not mean 'They'll give you a refund'. Just means they'll look , reasseess and then make a decision., Most times, the reassessemnt matches the assessment.

It's like getting a second opinion. If one doctor says you've got a broken leg, fair bet the next doc is gonna say the same thing.

My secret is to always buy games on sale. This way I never feel regret at the next sale, because I already got some money off when I initially purchased it, and if it was a good game, I don't mind the extra cash I spent.

Take it from me, you can't just keep waiting for everythinng to go 90% off. I'd love nothing more than that for every game, but realistically it's not gonna happen, so pick and choose your monetary battles.

Buy at a price you deem appropriate and fair. If it goes lower. well. Such is life.

It never ceases to amaze me how "case-by-case basis" magically translates for some into "getting a refund".

case-by-case [adjective]

used to describe decisions that are made separately, each according to the facts of the particular situation:

You would think that going on sale a day later would be enough for Valve to bend a tad.. but apparently not.

Valve apparently only cares about the 2 hour limitation in all they do, which is a pathetic amount of time. I know when I first buy a game I can dump 2 hours into it in a heartbeat. Valve knows that...

I bet valve wishes it could go back to .. no refunds..

So is the new limit, according to you, going to be 24 hours later ??

What about 24 hours and one minute ?

What about 25 hours ? Where is this new limit going to be ?

Another thing that always amazes me is how it needs to be pointed out that no matter what this new limit would be, then comes all the threads asking for it to be just a little bit longer, because the current limit is "not fair".

2 hours and then people want 3...or 5 or 10.

2 weeks and then people want 3 weeks or 5 or 1 year.

Some people are never going to be happy with whatever the number is.

I'm not talking about some global limit..

I'm talking about the damned game going on sale the next day.

Holy cow man.

not all games get massive drops. X-rebirth as an example, been staying expensive even with many negative reviews. it's always better to wait for special sales or go shopping elsewhere.
Usually Assassin Creed games get a good price drop before Christmas.

Fine, man, input whatever conditions you want. So the limit now is 14 days. Let's say the item goes on sale and they allow 15 days, as you said before, it is only one day we are talking about, right ?

Do I need to go on here ?

The limit is 14 days and it is done on a case-by-case basis. Just because a case returns an answer of "no" does not mean they did not look at the case. It just means........no.

EDIT....

Also, OP is wrong here. It is not that the game was played, it is that the game was played for more than 2 hours. Interesting how that was just happened to me omitted here in the OP. Details like that are often missing from these refund complaint threads.

Such as the often-seen "or" instead of "and" between 2 hours and 2 weeks. Funny how some of these threads (not this one) miss that little detail in the policy.

This is why you wait for a sale and don't just buy it outright unless you really need it, ain't steams fault if it went on sale 5 minutes after you bought it.

That's life, buddy. Deal with it, or spend your life being miserable over insignifcant "problems".

The refund policy mainly exist for people who have technical problems with a game and can't get it to run in less than the 2 hours given...not for people who do not like a game, or think that they should get a refund just because a game gets discounted 24 hours later (which at least here not a single shop would do either).

Even then. There is always the possibilitry of a game getting an even deeper discount.
