Price drops day after purchasing
Think I've finally reached my triggered and salt limits with steam and how they deal with refunds and sales. I purchased a game that was on their featured/recommended bar that i had not seen before, and turned out to be a good game. The next day (less than 24hrs from purchase) they dropped the price by 50%. Now I like the game and want to keep it, but because I actually played it they refuse to refund the game so I can have it at the sales price.

Now I know sales are sales, and you can't just request this for any game you own whenever it goes on sale. Business here (canada) have a one week return policy which if your item goes on sale within a week of purchase you can bring your receipt in and get the difference back.

Less than 24hrs, and they refuse after the amount of money that I have spent on steam and this is apparently too much for them to handle.

I will now be looking for other avenues to obtain games, and if thats not possible, I will no longer pay a full value for a game, as more than likely they will just kick me in the a** the within a day or two.

If steam wants to have satisfied customers, they need to look at their policies, and perhaps figure out pissing off their customers isn't good business.

Their refund policy is pretty clear:
-Less than 2 hours played.
-Less than 2 weeks since purchase.

I agree that this is about a 9/10 on the got shafted scale, but rules are rules.

i always find it wise to wait 2 days to play a game i just purchased to see if it goes on sale cheaper. after that, what ever.

The trick is not to get tricked by Steam. Recognize their scam bait patterns and you can avoid their tyranny.

Last I checked, steam itself doesnt scam you at all. Its not Valve or Steams fualt devs choose when their stuff goes on sale.

You bought the game at full price, which was a proce you were fine with paying at the time. You played it for more than 2 hours, which means you no longer qualify for any refunds. The Dev later puts it on sale as they do. And now you blame Steam because you made a poor decision to buy this mystery game at full price rather than wait for the developer to put it on sale? And you're swearing to not buy games from Steam anymore because of this, even though Steam has a much better return policy than any other online game retailer I am aware of.

Seriously, I've seen other online retailers who refuse a refund even if you've played 0 hours. I've previously bought from one which advertised a 30 day "no questions asked" return policy and then flat out refused to accept a game 2 days after the purchase was made with no reason given, at all, and just closed my ticket when I pointed to their own return policy.

You really want to do this? Whatever, man. Good luck trying to convince other online retailers to make exceptions to their return policies.

and I seem to remember Valve going on about how the refunds would work with items that go on sale the next day..

Vaguely .. .. and I'm sure they want it that way..

Yes they did. And they do.
Provided you meet the 2 hour rule.

I also seem to remember them talking about a 'case by case basis'

Which obviously does not apply with the 2 hour rule you/valve are throwing around.

It does apply, but many of the people complaining about the not getting a refund despite that "case by case basis" clause have gone way too far over the limit. If you're just slightly past the limit, you have a decent chance.

1 day later? I hardly think that should be an issue..

But then again.. this is Valve we are talking about here.

What about gameplay hours though? If the game goes on sale the day after you bought it, but you're played it for well over 2 hours already, then of course they won't make an exception.
